Or is it sub-doamin? I'm confused Which is the "freebie"? Then again which is advisable? Anyway, I've been sending and receiving emails from US to Oz over the last 24 hours and still getting nowhere here. You may have to check on the ticket to work it out. The last advice I received was to seek help from the "registrar" whereever that is. This is to configure the Nameservers dns5 & 6. It all began when I grabbed one of my parked domains and "pointed" it at Blue Voda in order to create a addon domain or a sub - I'm can't remember now but I presume one has no cost involved. Now I cannot even log into either Control Panel. Are they the same log in details as my current site proofcheck.info? Boy! Do I need help here. Michael J.Ming |

G'day Michael I am not sure I fully understand your question but: If you already have a domain name and you wish to use it here at voda then what you need to do is log into where you have your domain name hosted (the company where you purchased) Once logged in look for the section where you can change the DNS settings and change them to the dns information you have in your voda information email subject "VodaHost:Login Imformation" (must be exactly as they state) Once done log into your voda cpanel (if your domain with voda is proofcheck.info then use the log in info you got with that) and click on "ADD-ON DOMAIN" and type in your addon domain info you should now have your add on domain in your vodahost account. Hope this help aussiebaz |

And, yes, you are using an add-on. An add-on means you have a domain name you purchased for it. (A sub means you are using the original domain name). Before you do above, watch the tutorial for add-on domains. The do as stated above and make sure you understand how to publish to it.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still a little lost but have made some progress. Please correct me if I'm wrong here: I have logged into the control panel and checked the ftp accounts. productpact.com is there. There are two possible id listed namely productpact@proofcheck.info and public_html/product pact. So, I have since created a password in that ftp account. My question, which is my id when I publish? and What will be in the browser to see that domain name? Is it productpact.com without the www? Please clarify. |

Hi, is your add on domain www.productpact.com ? In any case, be sure to also remove the domain from parking if you intend on publishing to it ... Your username and passwords will be the same for this domain as your main domain .. Publishing to your main domain to public_html publishing to an add on domain public_html/productpac

Aha we are getting closer to the mark. My addon domain is www.productpact.com I've rechecked go-***** and one part of my account states that productpact.com has been "forwarded to www.vodahost.com" But how do I call the page "index" when there is already one listed in the main domain? I shaLL TRY AGAIN. |

You will want to keep all these things separate on your own computer ... Each domain, whether it is your main domain, or any add on domain that you create - will need their own index page ... Every website you create with it's own domain name will follow all the same rules as your main domain other than what directory you publish to. On your computer - make a new file folder in MYDOCUMENTS/BLUEVODA called productpact - store all of your images and your .bvp files for this add on domain in this folder. You can then create the index page necessary for this new domain, as well as all your other pages for this domain and then save them in this new file folder - this will prevent overwriting your exisiting pages for your main domain if you store them in their own separate folder on your computer ... Remember - Main Domain - publish to public_html Add on Domain - publish to public_html/addondomain (Whether or not you need to add the .com after the addondomain in the publish area will depend on, your control panel, the number of domains you own and mainly how the add on domain got added when you did this procedure - take note if the .com was included - if you try and publish to public_html/addondomain and it doesn't work - try instead public_html/addondomain.com) You will need to type the add on domain in the publish area when you publish to the add on and then remove it when you go back and publish to your main domain .. Just like on your computer, every domain has it's own individual folder in your voda hosting account (controlpanel/filemanager)

Sorry if I've added an exta query here. On going back into ******* (after scrolling way down and finding a blue voda tutorial on changing nameservers in *******) I suddenly noticed I hadn't changed them (although the tutorial varied in the ******* layout somewhat). They are now changed to ns5.vodahost.com & ns6.vodahost.com. I am still unsure how to publish www.productpact.com. You mention the change in public_html. Just how does one save an "index" page when there's already one on the main site? I know I asked this previously but ... and where is the difference if the id & password are the same? |

Hi ... scroll up and read my post in it's entirety and you will see how to create and save another page named index on your computer ... 1. You create a new folder on your computer to store your files 2. Publishing to it's add on domain folder instead of your main domain folder. The directory (folder) for you main domain is public_html Every add on then has a folder (directory) of their own inside of public_html for their domain That is the difference - where you publish to.

| Here goes: if you have 2 domain names eg: productpact.com and yoursite.com then in your voda folder you set up 2 sub-folders one called productpact and one called yoursite(whatever your add on domain name is) So you go to your builder and you design a page and you want it to be your mainpage for productpact.com, you click "file" then "save page as", you then select the "productpact"folder and save the page into that folder as index. You then design a page that you want as your main page in yoursite.com(your addon name), you then click "file" and then "save page as", you select the yoursite folder , and save the page into that folder as index. To upload to server: in your builder click "file", click "open Page" and select your productpact folder. click on index and it will open the page into your builder, now click "publish" (remember you are saving this to your main domain)so make sure in the "folder"section it says public_html and click "publish' now wait for it to say "successful" Now click "file", then "open page"and select the yoursite folder and click on the "index" file, the page will now open. click on "publish" and make sure in the "folder" section you have public_html/yoursite and click "publish" You should now have both sites working. site one should be http://www.productpact.com site 2 should be http://www.yoursite.com hope this clears it up aussiebaz if you design a page and you want to save it |

Hi Fellow Aussie - we are getting close now. Thanks ever so much. I think this forum topic is getting a large number of curious onlookers. May help them also. Anyway I printed your instructions and followed to the letter but I cannot find the site. It did "publish" etc. by the way, productpact is the addondomain - neither with or without the www came up. Any ideas to reach the final stage? ps What did come up when I put productpact.com in the browser was the main site with an extra html tagged on the end - weird! My main site proofcheck.info seems unaffected thank god. |

| Try this --log into your cpanel --go to your public html folder and click on it. --Find the folder productpact. --click on that folder --once inside is there a index file inside? if there is click on the name index and over to the right you should see the complete url to that site. if it is there double click it and your page should open. if it works ok then that is the exact url you need to use for that particular site. hope this solves your dilema if not, post here and let me know and if it is ok I can ring you and see if I can help aussiebaz |

I could not locate public html folder per se in the control panel. So I went into FTP Manager and located only public_html/productpact but no "index file". When I clicked on the above my "index" page sprung to life but the url in the browser states http://www.proofcheck.info/productpact/ - not want I was really hoping for. Is there a way to exclude the main site name (proofcheck.info) from this addon domain name? It seems a waste of paid domain name the way it reads.

1. Your add on domain needs to be pointed to your voda host servers. - you have this correct 2. An add on domain needs to be created via the add on domain icon in your control panel. - I do not believe you have this correct ... 3. An index page needs to be created and saved and published as index to your add on domain - I do not believe you have this done ... Please go into your control panel and check the icon ADD ON DOMAIN - once you go there it will be listed if you have any add on domains - if you see productpact listed as an add on domain then you will just ned to create, name, save and publish a page called index - if you do not see productpact listed as an add on domain, please add it and then publish your page called index. When all things are correct your add on domain will be found via www.productpact.com

I seem to be following your directions up to a point but something is missing. Yes, productpact.com is listed as a sub domain. Yes, I have created a folder (productpact) and published an index page within that folder. So why isn't it www.product.com? We are getting close.

No ... I asked if it was showing as an ADD ON DOMAIN ... not a sub-domain An add on domain and a subdomain are two different things, and I believe you have already been explained the difference of the two by Bethers, but I will do it again. AN ADD ON DOMAIN IS AN INDEPENDENT DOMAIN AND ONE WHICH YOU PAY EXTRA TO PURCHASE THE DOMAIN NAME - YOU OWN IT UNTIL YOU NO LONGER PAY WHEN IT EXPIRES YEARLY. YOU ADD THESE USING THE ADD ON DOMAIN ICON IN YOUR CONTROL PANEL. A SUB-DOMAIN IS DEPENDENT ON YOUR MAIN DOMAIN OR ADD ON DOMAIN, DOES NOT CARRY IT'S OWN WEBSITE URL (ADDRESS) AND IS FREE AND YOU CAN ADD THESE USING THE SUB-DOMAIN ICON. So you need to check the ADD ON DOMAIN ICON Also - please take note of your domain name It is www.productpact.com - you will not find it by simply product.com

My misquoted error. I did actually mean addon domain. Please ignore my remark referring to sub domain - must be getting tired. Still we have a dilemma. productpact.com is an addon domain and I have published the index page from a new folder (productpact) that I was previously instructed to do. But all the browser accepts is www.proofcheck.info/productpact/ as mentioned earlier. Any further instructions to remedy the situation? |

Okay, that is good news then, well besides your being tired, but seems like you are getting the hang of things .. I believe something must be done incorrectly, so I am going to suggest that we backtrack and begin again .. Firstly, go into your control panel, add on domains, and remove the add on domain for productpact .. this should remove everything for you, the folder and all ... then log out and then log back in and then go to add on domains again and add on productpact.com - once you receive this successful notice, then begin your publishing. Open up your index .bvp for this domain and publish this index page to public_html/productpact or you may have to publish to public_html/productpact.com instead whichever works for you (all depends how the domain gets added, if you watch carefully while doing so, you will see what fills in for you - it will either be productpact or productpact.com - this will determine where you publish to as stated above .. try this please.

Oh dear, I seem to have taken two steps back.. If Aussie Baz is out there please ring me on 07 33724349. I deleted the addon domain and logged out etc. as instructed. Where exactly should one redirect the addon? It shows http://www.proofcheck.info/index/ at the moment. To make matters more complicated the folder stayed where it was and I can't delete it for some reason. Help! Michael J.Ming |
