Default Domain and website transfer

Hello BV members,

My firm's web-designer is taking the piss of late. I have told my boss that he can always use BV (user friendly) software to re-design the website by himself and transfer the domain here.

He put me in-charge of re-designing and transferring the domain. The website www.theconfab.net is up and running. How would I go about transferring the domain? I know how to use BV!

Please keep in mind that I am an amateur.

A step by step guide would be apprecited.

Kachano

Hi,

Set up a hosting account for your company with VodaHost.

Submit a support ticket to apply for a free transfer and VodaDomains will
transfer the domain to your account.

Thanks very much for the linky Doug.

Zuriatman,

Where can I get a support ticket to apply for a free transfer? Do you mean "freedomain" coupan?

Ok here's a screen shot of the website which I am working on.

Another question that I want to ask is .....

should I name the page as www.theconfab.net/theconfab-quality-approach or should I name it as www.theconfab.net/quality-approach ?

Visitors can get to this page once they visit theconfab website and then click on the second icon at the top (from left) labelled "The Confab".

Now my question is which one of the above is suitable?

I would very much appreciate if you guys give some suggestions on colour schemes too.

This is really up to you...But I would go with the shorter keyword rich version.

Hello guys,

The website www.theconfab.net is up and running. I have managed to get the e-mail address changed to me account so that I get the transfer confirmation e-mail.

Before I start the procedure, I'd like to ask a few questions as follows:

Once I transfer the domain, www.theconfab.net, to Voda servers, will I be able to get rid of the website, which isn't programmed using Blue Voda?

Will it cost us anything to get rid of the website and upload the new website that is being built using Blue Voda?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Kachano

Just a few clicks on the mouse in your Control Panel before you upload your new website is all it takes!

I would first backup/copy all your "old website" files into a folder onto your computer for safekeeping rather than simply delete them outright, however ..... never know if you will need them in the future!

Thanks very much for the info, Vasili. I have a backup on a cd. I will be using them with some modifications.

Once again thanks very much for the info.

Another question for you lot!

We use "google mail service for organisations" with our website, www.theconfab.net . It is a free service.

The question is:

Will we loose all our e-mails (thousands of them) when we transfer to vodahost?

Thank you.

Kachano

P.S: I have already designed the look of the website using BV. I have also called the hosting to unlock the domain. Almost ready to switch to vodahost.

Hello,

I have just transferred the domain, www.theconfab.net, to BV server. The said website isn't designed with BV software. I have recently designed one, in BV, and would like to publish it. How do I go about it? What should I do with the already designed website (up and running on the server and not designed using BV)?

A step by step guide would be higly appreciated.

I am a novice.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Talking Re: Domain and website transfer

There is a whole series of detailed Video Tutorials for using Blue Voda, and an abundance of specific tips and techniques filling these forums to the brim --- all of which you should be reviewing and absorbing from as one of the most robust resources on the Net. Lord knows how many people who do not even use Blue Voda or are clients of VodaHost have learned from the sheer volumes on web building here....

You need to get into the saddle to create your own website as you envisioned, not depend on individual tutoring or step-by-step problem solving.

Peer-to-peer Support is unique in this manner, as it allows you to take all the credit yourself for your progress and accomplishments, but this type of encouragement is not keen on trying the patience of those who volunteer to help out.

We hold our peers in high esteem, but do not hold their hands....

Thanks very much for the reply Vasili. By saying "step by step", I was referring to the existing website which is not programmed in BV. How do I get rid of it is all I want to know? The website is on VH server now and I have no idea how to take it off of the server. I have made a new website using BV and I am sure I can figure how to upload it once I get rid of the old one.

Hi, as of right now your website is still showing on the internet with your other server. In order for a domain transfer to complete you must ask for the transfer, respond to an email saying you initiated the request. Did you receive this email yet? Once your domain is transferred to voda host servers the current website you now see will disappear, as it will no longer be on that prior server.

Also - with rebuilding in blue voda it is a good idea to rebuild and use the same page names you already have with your existing site. This way if any of those pages have ranking they will continue to be found, otherwise someone searching may come across your site, go to that page and if you have not recreated that page they will run into a page cannot be found .. if you do not recreate you should at least redirect any of those pages to the main page of your website.
