Thread: subdomain question

i talked on the phone about that to someone from the support.

so, the problem. I've got a domain:
zalozi.be
(registered today, not live yet, but the DNSs are in place and it'll be accessible tomorrow)

I've set it up as an addon domain in the cpanel.

Now, my request is that each subdomain like
http://anything.zalozi.be
shows the content of
http://zalozi.be

in other words http://each-possible-subdomain.zalozi.be shows the content of the main domain
http://zalozi.be

This is called Wildcard DNS and you can set it up manualy on your side.

The problem is if you know how to do it and can you do it for me!

It is quite easy. Once I have this, I can put an index.php file in the main directory that parses the reffering url. That's how if i have:
http://user1.zalozi.be
http://user2.zalozi.be
.
.
http://userN.zalozi.be

i can load different content in the index.php depending on the user, while http://www.zalozi.be has some default content...
and each user is going to have it's own subdomain. I'm planning to make some kind of a personalised directory.

so, are you going to do it for me, or not...

so, I'm going to use it as a place to host a script for my University Degree diploma work.

It's going to be a bargain (second hand) shop directory. Each shop is going to be able to register an account and expose their items. The main URL http://www.zalozi.be is going to show all items, while the subdomains will show the items for a particular shop...

It's going to be in Bulgarian, aimed at the local business.
In fact, I'm not sure that I'll even market the complete product. At the certain moment I'm more interested to have a place to test and show the script to my examination commission.

I'm not planning to make some sort of free hosting stuff, if you are afraid of that.

Actually, I'm rather surprised that I'm running into such a long conversation about this feature request. Another hosting that I'm using has this feature in their admin area and setting it up is done right away...
