    Default Making your details private

    Hi all

I have since found out (shockingly) that once your domain name is registered with "whois" that all your personal details are available for whoever to view, unless it is protected.

I have just taken out this protection option with Vodahost.

I just wanted to know, does this only apply to a domain name that you currently have hosted ? Or do you need to have other domain names that you have purchased also protected, to prevent your details from being on the web ?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi .. yes, you will want to take out that protection on all of your domain names, the protection is individual domain related. It's a good idea and glad you have found out, this is an area that alot of spammers harvest email addys ... so it is totally, well worth it!!

If you are running a business you are going to want that info published anyway. If you accept credit cards you have to make your contact info all available and POSTED on your site. Not that it isnt a good thing if you are really truly worried about it.. it only keeps your info from WHO IS... you can view source and if you fill out the author.. youve put your name back in there. Im just pointing out that if you are going to bother to privatize it.. then make sure you cover all your other tracks.

One more thing to note... if someone has an issue with your biz or domain and they file a complaint with whois to get your info.. it will cost YOU 25 bucks and notice if you dont respond within a certain time frame.. they will close your domain.
