Thread: Add on not publishing

Hi,
I trying to publish my add on site (only just added).
Have added in CPanel, advised where I purchased site from the Server information but for some reason when I try to publish doing the public_html/site 2 it comes up with
ERROR: 550 Cannot change directory to public_html/site 2.
Am I suppose to advise customer support of this site or should it all work from adding into cpanel and as long as servers are noted with where site was purchased?

Hi, it should all be automatic. whats the name of the new site? as you should be publishing to public_html/newsitename/

Hi, thanks for response. I have used new site name but I just used site 2 for my example only. Apparently it does not matter what I use for that section but I am now thinking with me only getting confirmation of the site today could this have anything to do with it?

Hi willow

Addon domains like all new domains need up to 48hrs or so to propogate through the www...........as long as you have pointed the DNS to your vodahost servers you should be able to publish.

Might be wrong? But i dont think this would stop you from publishing, it would just stop the viewing of the site. As you are just publishing to another folder in your public_html directory. But let others confer this.

Mmmm interesting. No offence I do hope this is the error because I cannot think what else it could be. If it is just a matter of waiting it would certainly be easier on my part :) I will keep checking back.

have you pointed the dns of your addon domain name to your server IP numbers?¿

Hi David, I went back and checked server details. I put in the the identical that I used for my main site. Because BV changed the servers couple of months ago I did not use the new IP address (honestly didn't give it a thought). I am a little stumped though because the old ones are still noted with that domain company.

I am a little confused though (as usual when it comes to these things). My old ones which are also listed for main site main are
ns19.vodahost.com - 74.52.137.210
ns20.vodahost.com -74.52.137.210.
For the new when looking under the Vodahosts servers it has only 1 lot of numbers 67.228.244.195. Do I use this IP for both sections?
Sorry to be a pain. I just copied the IP from my original information so this is probably the error.

Yep already done that but it also requires the IP address with my domain company. I did exactly what I did with Willows. Only difference is that BV changed the IP couple of months ago from 74.52.137.210 to 67.228.244.195 but still using the ns19.vodahost.com. and ns20.vodahost.com

In that case you should be changing your dns at your other domain name company............and reread my last message..added seconds later

Thanks David. I have put in support ticket so I can find out the full IP details because I think there should be a 1 digit change on the end on 1 of them as per my original. I still can't figure out how the main web is still ok when it is on the old IP details.

When VH change an account to a different server, they usually link it so that you dont have to bother, but they nearly always inform you with the new server details.................

I would have thought that the add on would have then worked with the dns and ip details that I am using for willows. i have done this before with a different site that i once added and there was no issues. i am puzzled why there is now, but perhaps i waited a certain period of time for behind the scenes work (who knows).

Hi, i know yours is a slightly different problem, but if you do set up an add on domain some other time, you can still publish before anything is pointing at your sever. I just set up an add on domain called Micky mouse & all published fine. I just want the domain name now. LOL

I have no idea what is going on. I was on this all hours till 4am. Got up now to take another look and just don't know what it is that is preventing me from doing this. I did the addon as per the tutorial which is actually quite basic so it has got me. I appreciate your help and advise.

Hi again, can you guys please confirm if I am doing this correctly.
In the publish section it should be for the addon.
Just want to make sure that I have right details in folder section because the message I get when trying to publish is - can't change directory to public_html/lilyrose: No such file or directory.


lilyrose is the new domain

Hi Chris, all is good now. I wasn't putting .com.au on the end of my site after the public_html.
