Hi, i want to offer a subscription service where members can access videos, sounds simple but am not sure where to start or the best video format/s to use. The area for the videos will need to be access by link only and not available to general public. It will be a yearly subscription service and I really want the videos to load quickly and look professional. I can take care of the content but need help the technology, as ever! thanks for any advice as ever, cheers my domain is www.consciouscreation.co.uk Dave

David, I havn't done it yet but I researched this same type of question for my other website http://moneyreallymatters.com to have a paid membership to only access certain pages. You can do different ways. You add a paid membership signup and they pay via paypal. Once they paid, you can authorizze their username to have a member specific page permission. You can do that by manage users in the VH by restriciting certain pages on permission basis. Let me know if you need more clarifications.

| dbts_logger supports memberships and would allow you to have users that pay with PayPal to activate their account and reach the (protected) pages that contain the links to the content. However, it is a commercial script.

As for your videos it all depends how you are going to present them... are you going to have just a list of videos that they right click and save to their pc's? if so then windows media is as good a program as any to load your video files on. If you want your videos to play on the pages themselves then use a flash video program like 'Wondershare'

Some good advice, some useful suggestions, and some fluff to raise the eyebrows..... If you are still trying to figure out how to design your new site and are stumbling with the distribution of "videos by subscription" or responding to a paid group, why don't you seriously put some condiseration in using one of the integrated foundations that is just as easy to learn as was Blue Voda? You can utilize all the "cart" features that would normally allow eDistributables to "groups" or individual clients simply by installing a simple add-on in either Joomla or Drupal, as well as take advantage of the many pre-configured utilities installed in the basic foundation: that way you don't have to find and configure additional modes to BV, and for your needs, the one-click install versions available in Fantastico! sure helps to keep the budget to nil (abeit your time)! Using a CMS base like Joomla would also be quite a leap to solving your optimization of your Content and developing articles, which I understand of be another major element of your site. I would favor Joomla over Drupal when blending more eCommerce-like functions rather than pure content management (more add-ons, more versatility, but a notch more time to learn). You have spent a good month already trying to wrap up a tight locial "build" but seemed to have overlooked leveraging less time learning a new foundation that has what you are looking for and more! Just an idea....and more than a simple fix --- it will allow you a lot of room to grow also. Too bad the others are so myopically unaware of your progress...... IMO |

Hi, thanks for all the advice. I have just downloaded joomla to a file on a domain not being used at the mo, but need to find out what on earth to do with it next!! Not sure where to start so will do the 'logical thing' and read up on it works and how to do it! Any advice here to kick start me would of course be very well received as ever from the BV side of the world. Mabye I have been overlooking what was in front of my face all the time but now have a much better idea of the content and elements that will make up my offers. thnaks again for the advice dave
