Thread: Outlook Express Assistance

Hi All,

I went to bed last night and all my email accounts in OE were working - 2 a.m. I checked and spam and regular mails were coming into OE.

This morning I logged online and opened OE and got nothing. That hasn't happened in months, but I thought - well was 2 am - so did other things. When, by this afternoon, I hadn't received any mail to OE (yes, I was able to send) - I went to web mail and discovered I had plenty of mail.

Any idea what might have happened in the few hours I was sleeping?

I'm not looking forward to deleting all my email accounts to get them going again.

Suggestions of things to try?

I just did a complete system check and all is fine on our end, what error message are you receiving?, have you checked with your ISP for service issues?

Thanks for looking on your end ***** - this is totally like a gremlin entered my computer. No error messages. The emails are all going into webmail fine - just not continuing on to OE.

I ran my anti-virus again (which had run yesterday afternoon) and all is fine there, too.

My friend, sitting next to me - using the same provider, is having no problem with emails to his OE.

And, I can send from it, just nothing is coming in.

I'm thinking I might have to spend a couple hours and delete all my accounts, then readd them to CP, then OE again. But if someone can think of something that might have changed for me to look at, I'd love to find an easier solution.

Try looking at your application / security logs and maybe there will be a clue there. Right click My Computer and click on Manage. Expand the Event Viewer and then click on Application. If there is an error message or Yellow triangle with an exclamation in it- right click on it (them) and select properties. This will give you some information as to the error and often times a link to MS for a soultion.

Also check the security and system for any such errors.

Sometimes it will give you an error identification number. You can then take that and google it for a possible solution if none from MS exist.

*****, I've rebooted more times than I can count, tried a system restore but very strangely it wouldn't give me any time options to restore to except today (another strange occurrenct) - have gone through all the settings, cuz it just doesn't seem possible.

I did have an issue yesterday where my computer clock got off time- don't know if or how this could have effected OE - but if it did, it's not correcting.

How old is the computer? Clock suddenly off is sometimes indication of cmos battery going?

Also- try the sfc /scannow This will replace any files missing or damaged in outlkook.

Beth I would agree with ***** about checking with your isp for issues. I have seen the opposite, emails coming in but not being sent and these issues were related to the server, and it too perhaps could have a small something to do with your adaware program you may be running, have seen this too. In fact what it is called to the techy people is an email is blocking your inbound server. So I think before you uninstalled etc., I would check with them, they may be able to unplug the plug.

So sorry, btw, to hear you are having these troubles. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Computer is less than a year old - the clock problem was something I caused - we won't talk about that LOL -

The isp isn't the problem, as my friend here is on same cable connection - same router - and it's working fine there for his oe accounts.

I've seen two computers, in one house, on one router and one email program not working, if you've checked with them, then no I guess not, but if you haven't, I would. I have seen the adaware program the user was using clog up these lines. Not necessary using lavasoft adaware, but their spy program of choice .... particulary where this is a one sided email problem, it really points to that to me ... have you taken an update that perhaps has tighted up your spam control on your computer? Try disabling your spyware program and see what happens...

Are you receiving any error messages other than it cannot connect?

I've even tried turning off my antivirus programs and all firewalls - I've checked for all updates that came in - none came in after the problem occurred.

I did call the isp - we went through everything on that end this afternoon.

Tomorrow - after I sleep on this and don't come up with anything, I'll delete them all out and then put them back. It's possible somehow they simply got corrupted.

and i would assume you did the same with your spyware program, it kind of sounds disappointing Beth, maybe that is the only solution .... maybe the good fairy will show up tonight as you sleep and fix it ... you never know ....

Well, the ogre showed up last night, so we can hope the good fairy shows tonight :)

*****, you can close this thread. I got it all working again. I still don't understand what happened, but I fixed it and life is good. Let's hope when I get up tomorrow if strange things happen they make my life easier!
