Thread: Someone is using my address to send out spam!

Help someone is using my website email to send out spam. I keep getting these delivery notification notices that I never sent out which uses weird accounts that I don't have.

This is one of the notification failures that I have resently received.

Failed to deliver to '<gschritter@compaqnet.se>'

How do I prevent people from doing this !!!!

If the emails are being generated from your website through a contact form of some sort then make sure it is secure.

If its being sent manually then there isn't anything you can do. Anyone can send out an email using whatever email address they want. Meaning there isn't anything you can do to stop someone from sending an email that says they are webmaster@yoursite.com

I`ve had he same thing, its insane, and they send out funny addresses too like ggttt@mydomain.com

Surely if we own the domain, we have controls we can put in place?

You have control over the emails that are sent to it, but due to the nature of how emails are sent anyone with a website or exchange server can send out an email under any email address they want, whether it exists or not, and whether they own the domain or not. There isn't anything you can do to prevent it.
