Thread: Outlook Express defaulted to Hotmail, Now What?

My pc has outlook express. When I set up my email account I was told it must go through hotmail, although my email addie is myname@sympatico.ca.

How can I set up my info@mycompany.ca via Outlook if it defaults to hotmail. Anyone else had or have this problem (in Canada?)

What do you mean, when you set up your account, what account are you referring to? VH? Horde? Outlook Mail? Sympatico? What is your operating system on your PC?

There shouldn't be any reason why your outlook or your sympatico email with outlook would revert to hotmail ...you don't require a hotmail account for outlook, perhaps this is when you were creating a microsoft id for something else?

When I got my computer years ago, and tried to get my outlook express email set up, Bell Canada said that I had to automatically connect it to hotmail. (They did it for me remotely). So I have Outlook express on my desktop, but was told to use hotmail for my email. I log into www.hotmail.ca, and it automatically brings up my personal myname@sympatico.ca login screen

Now I am trying to get my VH mail hooked up so I can use Outlook Express, but don't know if it's possible.

If I follow the tutorial, I can see that vh created my info@ufindabiz.com account in my outlook express. But that is where the problem begins.

I have windows xp.

Oh okay, yes seems as though there are a few settings that might differ for people when setting up their email accounts, you can find many threads of this, you will just have to find yours. In the meantime you can always forward your mail to your outlook from horde ..

Thank you for your view on this, LadyEye. I argued with the guy initially a few years ago, but was told that was how it was to be done. After you confirming that it is not so, I did a bit of "fiddling" myself, and have my personal email corrected. It now works directly from Outlook. Now I have to work on the VH email. But I will watch the video again, as I think I probably just missed something simple.

Just to clarify...I did not mean that VodaHost told me that my Outlook had to go through Hotmail. It was Bell Sympatico my ISP that told me that years ago when I first got my computer. Sorry for any confusion!

Now I am wondering about the error message regarding the STARTTLS. Does anyone know what my next step to solve this problem would be?

If I change my outgoing to mail.sympatico.ca I get this error
