Talking How to use your domain name with Googles Gmail webmail service

Using Googles web based Gmail eMail Service with your domain

Google offers a wonderful free service called Google Apps. Google Apps gives everyone who has there own domain top notch Email services, world class spam filtering, online word processing, online spreadsheets, a shared calendaring system and access to a flexible intranet system.

Because Google stores all of the files and content centrally (online), collaboration and document management become far simpler than when distributing files to multiple people and keeping track of different versions.

With a few changes to your DNS configuarion, Google apps can closely integrate with your web hosting account here at VodaHost, providing a much more robust web platform based around your existing domain name.

Click Here to create your Google Apps Account...It's 100% Free!

NOTE:
If you want to use Googles webmail service with your domain name...You must update your MX Records in cPanel....This will have the effect of all your domain name based email going through Googles servers a and you will be able to use Google webmail interface....

How to update Your MX Records in cPanel

1. Log in to your cPanel account.
2. Click Mail.
3. Click Modify Mail Exchanger (MX Entry). A list of your current MX records will appear.
4. Click Change an MX Entry.
5. In the Change MX for... field, enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
6. Click Change.

Congratulations! Your MX records are now configured to point to Google. Keep in mind that changes to MX records may take up to 48 hours to take effect.

After the MX records point to Google, how do I access my emails? Am I using the entire email address that I had with my domain such as imkingtut1@eneek.com or how do I do it? I need a lot of help here. Thanks

I would assume youd log into your google account and check the mail. When you change the mx records it should go there..

I currently have email for name@name.com, which is hosted in BV, forwarded to a gmail account. How is this different? Thanks for clarification.

The only way i have been successful in this is to FORWARD the mail... has google changed? Now that its premier you cant do it?

Default Re: How to use your domain name with Googles Gmail webmail service

I am wanting to use GMail to manage the email for my VodaHost domain (blanesheffield.com). I have gone into CPanel and changed the MX entry as suggested above.

Then, I went to my Google GMail account and setup my "Get Mail from Other Accounts" like this...

The "blane+blanesheffield.com" (the + sign instead of the @ sign" came from "Email User Name" advice on manually setting up a POP account from CPanel when I created the blane@blanesheffield.com email account.

The CPanel Manual Settings also state that I should use port 25 for the outgoing server but if I change the Port 110 (above) to 25, it errors out.

Bottom line, I can send a test email to blanesheffield.com and it never appears in my Gmail inbox. The Gmail appears to be checking blanesheffield.com as configured above without any erroring out but always says 0 emails fetched.

Can someone tell me if I am missing something somewhere?

Appreciate any help!!!

-Blane

Blane.. you have to use the google apps control panel at google for this to work.. also the mx entry needs to be a 10 instead of 0

Hi I've set up Google Apps for both my main domain - http://www.swiftsaleproperty.com and my addon domain - http://www.sprintflyer.com and i'm very pleased with it.

The only email problem i'm having a the moment is that when data is submitted on my ABVFP forms on these pages:

http://www.sprintflyer.com/order.php
http://www.sprintflyer.com/contact.php
http://www.sprintflyer.com/jobs.php

I get no email containing the submitted data.

It has been suggested that Google has severe spam filters, and might be blocking the mails.

If this is the case, is there some way i could alter the settings to get google to allow these mails?

Rez

Google spam filters aren't that bad. But this is a great general addition and pnrobably can be applied with other things with a little creativity.
