Conveyor belt problem

I don't have a URL yet to show you, but when I add a conveyor belt to my website and add the pics to it, the image ends up being HUGE and I can't resize it at all. It also stays huge when I preview it. Is there something I've done wrong?

Centering page in browser

Hi, This is the first time I've ever used BlueVoda and I'm a bit of an amateur. I don't have my page published yet as I only just started to work on it (so I can't give you a url), but my question is fairly simple. Is there something I'm supposed to do to make my page appear centered in the browser? I've placed my business logo (banner? leaderboard? not sure of the correct term) across the top of my screen that I want centered so the page is blank on either side. I did the whole 'Layout >> Center in page >> Horizontal' thing and it does center it in the BlueVoda design page, but when I preview it, it's on the left of my computer screen instead of being centered.
To explain a little more clearly, this forum is centered in the browser with white space on either side of it. That's what I'm trying to do with my webpage, but mine is toward the left when I preview. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

How to upload JAlbum Gallery

A bit of panic developing here! In this site http://www.timchadsey .co.uk I have (had) an image gallery created in photoshop and that is (was) in an i-frame in the "gallery" page. That has been fine for a few years (I updated it regularly with no trouble) but now I have created a new image gallery using JAlbum. I used ftp to load the new gallery under public.html in my site and put the new link http://www.timchadsey.co.uk/TC-Furniture/index.html into the i-frame. Now I have no gallery at all. I do not know what I have done wrong. Help is really needed here as I have been going around in circles all day. Thanks.

Why is Facebook blue?
According to The New Yorker, the reason is simple. It�s because Mark Zuckerberg is red-green color blind; blue is the color Mark can see the best.

Not highly scientific, right? That may not be the case for Facebook, but there are some amazing examples of how colors actually affect our purchasing decisions. After all, sight is the strongest developed sense in most human beings. It�s only natural that 90% of an assessment for trying out a product is made by color alone.

So how do colors really affect us, and what is the science of colors in marketing, really? As we strive to make improvements to our products, studying this phenomenon is key. Let�s dig into some of the latest, most interesting research on it.

First: Can you recognize the online brands just based on color?
Before we dive into the research, here are some awesome experiments that show you how powerful color alone really is.

Which colors trigger which feeling for us?
Being completely conscious about what color triggers us to think in which way isn�t always obvious. The Logo Company has come up with an amazing breakdown that shows which colors are best for which companies and why. Here are 4 great examples:

Clearly, every one of these companies is seeking to trigger a very specific emotion:

When we feel compelled to buy something, color can play a major role. Analytics company KISSmetrics created an amazing infographic on the science of how colors affect our purchases.

Green stands out to me as the most relaxing color we can use to make buying easier. We didn�t intentionally choose this as the main color for Buffer--although it seems to have worked very well so far.

How to improve your marketing with better use of colors:
This all might be fairly entertaining, but what are some actual decisions we can apply today to our website or app? The answer comes yet again from some great research done by the good folks over at KISSmetrics.

If you are building an app that mainly targets women, KISSmetrics suggests that women love blue, purple, and green, and dislike orange, brown, and gray.

In case your app is strictly targeting men, the rules of the game are slightly different. Men love blue, green, and black, but can do without brown, orange, and purple.

In another experiment, Performable (now HubSpot) wanted to find out whether simply changing the color of a button would make a difference in conversion rates.

They started out by trying to guess the outcome of a simple choice between two colors (green and red) and trying to guess what would happen.

�Green connotes ideas like �natural� and �environment,� and given its wide use in traffic lights, suggests the idea of �go� or forward movement. The color red, on the other hand, is often thought to communicate excitement, passion, blood, and warning. It is also used as the color for stopping at traffic lights. Red is also known to be eye-catching.�

So, clearly an A/B test between green and red would result in green, the more friendly color. At least that was their guess.

Here is what their experiment looked like:

So how did that experiment turn out? The answer was surprising: The red button outperformed the green button by 21%.

What�s most important to consider is that nothing else was changed at all: 21% more people clicked on the red button than on the green button. Everything else on the pages was the same, so it was only the button color that made this difference.
This definitely made me wonder: If we were to read all the research before this experiment and ask every researcher which version they would guess would perform better, I�m sure green would be the answer in nearly all cases. Not so much.

At my company, we�ve also conducted dozens of experiments to improve our conversion rates using changes of colors. While the results weren�t as clear, we still saw a huge change. One hypothesis is that for a social media sharing tool, there is less of a barrier to signup, which makes the differences less significant.

Despite all the studies, generalizations are extremely hard to make. Whatever change you make, treat it first as a hypothesis, and see if the actual experiment supports your ideas. Personally, I�m always very prone to go with opinion based on research I�ve come across. Yet, data always beats opinion, no matter what.

Quick last fact: Why are hyperlinks blue?

This is something that always interested me and is actually a fun story. In short, it's offers the highest contrast between the colors used on early websites.

Here is the full explanation: �Tim Berners-Lee, the main inventor of the web, is believed to be the man who first made hyperlinks blue. Mosaic, a very early web browser, displayed webpages with a (ugly) gray background and black text. The darkest color available at the time that was not the same as the black text was that blue color. Therefore, to make links stand apart from plain text, but still be readable, the color blue was selected.�

Gallery in iFrame

I want to put an image gallery, created in JAlbum, into my site. Is there any way I can do this whilst keeping my site's navigation in place without using an i-frame for the gallery. I was told once that spiders and bots will only recognise the page "frame" and not the content within it, which is not what I want.

I design digital s**** products and usually use 300 but know that those are very large and can take a lot of time to download. Also, which format is best to save the images in ... jpeg, gif, etc.

The site was not build from our main computer now that it is time for to do updates and make changes to the site can't. i was told to do an updated version onto our computer which i did. now comes the hard part of converting it to my computer to make the changes. Using someones email address as the username in the login tool

Hello,

I've just set up a members only area on my website using the login tools in BlueVoda - It was super easy to do thanks to Navaldesign's tutorial.

The only issue I have is that I would have preferred to allow the members to use their email address as the username however when they do they are met with a message that reads 'Username is not valid, please check and try again'

How can I program the system to allow an email address to be used as a username without getting this message?

drop-down menu question

i have created a drop-down menu, see it at http://lisarainbow.com/kalender.html at the top.

when clicking on one of the links, i want the user to be able to open it in the same page. this is working.

however, i also want the user to be able to click on the links with his right mouse button and receive the possiblity to open the link in a new tab. this is not working. now, when you click on any of the links with the right mouse button, it immediately opens the new page and doesn�t even ask or give the user the chance to use a new tab.

i have set the links in the drop-down menu to -self-. i also tried it with -parent- and -top- and also leaving it compeltely empty - it doesn�t work as i noted above. the non-dropdown links on my homepage work just fine as described above with the option to also open in a new tab with the right mouse button.

what do i need to do so that i also have the option in the drop-down menu to click on the links with the right mouse button and receive the possilbity to open the link in a new tab?

Ive been told adding H1 and H2 tags ect to my pages html will assist with search engine ranking so I would like to do it in my blue voda created pages. Looking at the html they dont seem to have been inserted? Im not very comfortable with html but can see two possible ways of adding it - either right clicking on the blue voda page and being restricted by the headings, or dragging a html box onto the page. Both ways seem to not offer very much control on where the tags go? Are they the two options, am I missing something? Is there a further option involving the control panel? WHY AMAZON WANTS YOU TO PAY INTERNET TAX

Our days of sales-taxless, free-love internet revelry may be numbered. Thursday afternoon, the Senate voted to approve a bill that could end tax-free online shopping once and for all.

And strangely enough, everyone's favorite online tax-free haven is leading the charge.Et tu, Amazon? Also... why?

The new legislation would require all internet retailers to charge the sales tax rate of the item's destination, overruling the 1992 Supreme Court decision in Quill v. North Dakota that made online shopping an easily tax-free zone. According to David French, senior vice president for government affairs at the National Retail Federation:
The industry is evolving very rapidly, and the law today is a 20th-century interpretation of an 18th-century document that is holding back the entire retail industry as it adapts to 21st-century consumer preferences and demand.
In other words, states are tired of missing out on the estimated $22 billion a year that taxed online sales could produce. And Amazon's doing everything it can to help them get it back.

How did this happen?
According to the Quill ruling, retailers without an actual physical presence (stores, warehouses, computer servers, what have you) in a state aren't required to force customers to throw down sales tax on their purchases. While a lot of business that allow mail and online orders do, in fact, have brick-and-mortar locations in plenty of states�think Best Buy, Target, Walmart�it's this ruling that spurred Amazon and others like it to build as few of their warehouses around the country as possible. With this handy little loophole, massive online retailers get to offer lower prices, lure in more customers, and put another nail in Mom and Pop's respective coffins, all in one fell swoop.

But the bipartisan, 10-senator-backed bill thinks the playing field's become uneven, and they're ready to level it out. Rep. John Conyers (D) of Michigan said at Wednesday's hearing:
What we're doing today is exploring the need for legislation to level the playing field between small businesses and online retailers. Local mom-and-pop" stores, and other businesses suffer when they have to collect a sales tax but online retailers don't.

Of course, just because the retailers aren't required to collect the tax themselves doesn't mean that it's technically not still there. For every online and otherwise non-sales-taxed purchase you make, the government is putting you on your honor to add up the missing taxes and pony up of your own volition. But shocking as it may be, the vast majority of people steal from our poor, helpless government every year by filling that line in with a miserly little zero.

But isn't Amazon screwing itself over by supporting the legislation?
Why no, no it's not! Sure, the tax-free party it's been enjoying for the past 21 years was a great business strategy for a while, but times are changin'. Most people these days are united by at least two factors: an irrational demand for instant gratification and a desire to have as little face-to-face interaction with other people as is humanly possible.

So to keep up with our whiny, minsanthropic ways, Amazon has installed same-day, one-click delivery in 10 cities across the country. Same-day delivery means huge, fully stocked warehouses. Warehouses mean obeying state tax laws. And the heavy populations in the places getting the service will almost always mean a state sales tax.

So with these additions, Amazon's days of skirting the IRS are coming to a close. Rather than find another way to sneak around the sales tax rules, its lawyers and lobbyists have opted to make damn well sure that everyone else is going down with them. Or as they chose to frame it, create "an even-handed federal framework for state sales tax collection."

Essentially, Amazon with their razor-thin profit models depend on the Volume method (whereas many businesses strive to attain such a model) to both justify acquiescence to Internet Taxation demands by Government and to overcome and defeat entirely the traditional profit-based businesses out there: they defy containment, and wish to be the largest distributor of merchandise on the planet (just as Google intends to dominate the Internet functionality world).

So why does this matter?
Everyone hates paying extra taxes. Remember the Boston Tea Party? And with the rate we as a nation have been growing increasingly dependent on online shopping, those extra dollars spent are going to add up quick. Long story short: it's going to make your life a whole lot more expensive.

It's not just going to hurt your wallet. The diversity of the marketplace could get slashed as well. As individual sellers with retail aggregators like eBay and Etsy decide the tax hike isn't worth the time it takes to carefully craft their cat hair necklaces, they'll start taking down their online stores. And YOU'LL never get to know the joys of wearing metal balls of cat sheddings around your throat.

The situation's not totally dire. As we very well know, getting a law passed can be a complicated process, even when it's pretty widely supported. Conservatives, in particular, are not fans of increasing pressure on businesses just so our states can turn into soci alistic hand-out free-for-alls. A lot of voters aren't too keen on an effective tax hike, either (gasp!), which means that the bill might not make it past the House of Representatives when it goes up for a vote on May 6th.

Still, even if the House does kill this particular piece of legislation this time around, you can bet Amazon won't go down without a fight. It seems almost certain that sales tax will invade the internet someday.

Let's just hope Super Saver Shipping isn't next. Either way, the precedence has been made simply because there was not enough outcry when this first legislation was concocted.
