Default ABVFP for navaldesign or David

Sorry to trouble you fellows but here's my situation:

Following Voda instructions, at ******* I changed my name servers to:
    ns.1voda29.com
    ns.2voda29.com
    for my domain name electmagi.com

I received e-mail notification of this from *******.
I haven't heard from Voda since the change.

I uploaded 32 ABVFP files into my ABVFP folder in public_html, all having 0644 permits.

I created My SQL database using the wizard.

I typed in the browser address bar http://www.electmagi.com/ABVFP/dbts_install.php (there's an underscore between dbts and install in both addresses)
A Website Could Not Be Found page came up.

Note: I suspect my domain name won't work until Sept 17 since it's young.

So I tried typing in the address bar http://75.126.124.166/~vxedlx/ABVFP/dbts_install.php
which is my temporary URL with the specified add-on

    Not Found page came up.

I don't know what to do now and any help is appreciated.

    Thanks, Shoemaker

Your domain is working, but I cannot see that you have published your
    index
page yet...........publish a temp index page then get back to me.

David, I just tried to publish my index page but got flagged that my password was incorrect. I used the voda supplied master password. Also I noticed the server IP was in the box (67.228.244.194), not mine, 75.126.124.166 which is still not in the drop-down list.

    Thanks, Shoemaker

    Hi David,

I reinstalled website builder. My IP address is now on the drop list.

I published my index page successfully.

Using Firefox I successfully accessed my page with the full URL and also with only electmagi, (a little ray of light).

Now, after entering in the address bar navaldesign's URL for dbts_install.php I received the same failure.

Hope you or any of the team can help.

    Thanks, Shoemaker

If your comments page contains a form it should be saved with a php extension..........

delete the comments.html form from your website(use bv's ftp)

and then change the extension to php(see page properties) then
    save and republish.....

    edit:
found your install form..............but should not be published here......

Hi David, thanks for getting back.
I'm confused here because of lack of experience.
I understand using the php extension.
The only page I purposely published was the index page, the partially constructed comments page was just in my blue voda files, I thought. I intended to trash it when I began with the ABVFP.
I don't know what (use bv's ftp) means yet.
If I save and republish I'm not using ABVFP, right? I'm just using the old form page without going through the ABVFP process, right?
"Found your install form...but should not be published here . . . I don't have a clue what that means.

Sorry for the trouble, but I'm completely new at all this.

    Thanks again, Shoemaker

it looks like David feels that this is not the correct place to post this thread. you have published your index page and it works fine. you should delete the present contact us page and set up the ABVFP software to make your form or you could use the form wizard. the link to see how to make a form using a wizard is:
    http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/for...-tutorial.html
    i hope this helps you

Way back I advised learning/watching BlueVoda ftp File Transfer Program video tutorial:
    http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/sav...e-blueftp.html

To avoid confusion, lets assume that you are going to use ABVFP....OK ?¿

Now, I have already seen your ABVFP installation form which you need to complete as soon as posible, hence the comment I made.

Concentrate on 2 things at the moment:
    BV FTP
    and
    ABVFP

if you have not published that parcial comments page yet, then remove the link to it from your index/home page.......SEO's dont like broken links.

Get in the habit of creating, testing, and publishing a page BEFORE you link to it........

OK fellows, I'm slowly making my way and it's clearer now, thanks to your replies.

I just set up my FTP account in cpanel. I came here to double-check David's instructions before I did anything else.

Now I'm going back to FTP and deleting my 'comment' page.

I'm deleting the link from my index page to 'comment' page by selecting the word 'comment' then cutting it. I hope that's right.

I'm typing in the address bar: http://www.electmagi.com/ABVFP/dbts_install.php (underscore is there)

Then I will continue with the ABVFP installation procedures.

In case I'm off base in any of the above, advice is much appreciated.

I'll check here periodically as I continue the work. Shoemaker

Never publish the address of an install type program......that was the reason for my 2 comments...........it could be hijacked......

In this case the link is not working, so you could be alright

The problem with ABVFP is that you have uploaded all the files in your public_html. The zip instructions instead clearly state that you should upload everything in a specifically created folder (named ABVFP, but the name is not important).

Delete the ABVFP related folders from your public_html. create a folder, and upload the ABVFP files in that folder.

Just to show you what i mean, your ABVFP installation page is in http://www.electmagi.com/dbts_install.php

Not for ABVFP. Without the database connection details, no one can install ABVFP so no form highjacking can occur, because the installation wizard will anyway refuse to go on if it doesn't first connect to the database.

    Thanks navaldesign, I'll do it.

I just came back here because I cut the 'comment text' from my index page, hoping that broke the link.

I opened my 'comment page' and cut everything off of it.

I deleted the 'comment page' in my blue voda files by right clicking it, then deleting it.

I got an FTP account but still don't know how to use it since in file manager, then public_html I didn't see my created pages so didn't know how to delete them with FTP.

Then I typed install php address in my address bar and got the same failure notice.

Next here, I'll go back and follow navaldesign's instuctions.

    Thanks, Shoemaker

P.S. I just deleted the ABVFP folder in my public_html.

When I downloaded the zipped ABVFP folder I unzipped it and all of the files are in a folder that I placed in one of my voda documents folders. When you say upload those files I'm not following to where to upload them from my personal document folder.

This feature was designed to make sure that the user has correctly entered the database details, however it also works very well as a security measure too....

I believe that you have not deleted all the ABVFP files, as i can see some of them (knowing what to look for).

Before you can upload them again, you need to create the necessary folder. Use BV's Blue FTP (in BV, Tools, FTP Manager). Connect (providing IP address, username and password, as you do when you publish).
In the right window, which is your site public_html folder, right click and select "New Folder". Double click it to open it. Click that and create a folder named ABVFP. By default the new folder should appear at the bottom of the list. You can upload all the new folder, by selecting them from your computer content (left window of the FTP screen) and dragging them to the right.

If you are familiar with Windows's Explorer, then you will see that FTP works, more or less as the Windows Explorer does.

OK, now I have this thread side-by-side with my opened file manager. I see 4 files with 0644 permits. would those be the undeleted files that need to be deleted, and only them? Can I select them individually and delete them with the delete button up in the menu bar?

Now I'm going to deal with the other part of your instructions. I'll keep this thread on my desktop.

    Thanks

The above quote is so the info doesn't get lost.

I have Blue FTP opened on my desk next to this thread. I'm connected and logged in. I didn't have to drag anything from left documents side into right public_html side. If I'm not mistaken all the ABVFP files are already in the right public_html side. So are the pages I created and images I've saved, and, as you said my new ABVFP empty folder. Do I have it right that I should drag all the ABVFP files into that empty folder?

I'll wait a little before making any blunders, but I'm here watching.

Hi David, It must be 1:30AM in Majorca, I appreciate the effort.

I'm in the process of dragging the files into the open ABVFP folder. I'm stuck with dialup for ten more days and it's very slow, but working. I'll keep working so won't continue keeping you up but I'll put my results on this thread when I've finished. The link navaldesign put up I'll assume that when I'm finished putting everything in the folder I'll just fill out that form in the link.
I'll still keep my eye on this thread while I'm working. Peace, Shoemaker

Gee, and I thought you'd be seething with anger by this time. I figured he might be in Italy.

So now I have 33 ABVFP files installed in the new ABVFP folder on the right side of my BlueFTP.

I didn't drag the BV files there since I think I remember David saying don't add those.

Since you didn't say I shouldn't fill out the form in the link provided by navaldesign I guess I'll go do that and then continue following the next steps. I'll keep you both informed, maybe not tonight. You might consider sipping a late night cognac (not the 103 yuk!).

Sometimes I must seem loony as Roberto Benini going stir crazy in a New Orleans jail cell. You might not get that but navaldesign might. I'll get over it. Maybe it's like having a baby. Ouch! it hurts so bad . . . then AAAAHHHH what a relief. Hasta Luego, and Pura Vida

This post is for the next time you fellows are around here. I have the Processor Installation on my desktop. Continually it won't accept my password. I've checked everything in the form several times and can't find a mistake. Can my Email address be my old personal one or should it be my new webmail address? I read the end user license agreement and checked the box. My database name is my master username_abvfp. My database user name is master username_master username (no spaces). Database host is localhost. My site is http://www.electmagi.com. I don't know what I'm missing.

    Cheers

ABVFP reports installation errors. WHAT is the reported error ?

If the error is that the script can't connect to the database, make sure that you have ADDED the user to the specific database. If you didn't, this is your problem (supposing that the typed database details are correct)

Good morning from Cal. navaldesign, and you too David, I ADDED the user to the database, and found that the database name abvfp should have been ABVFP. I got a congratulation notice, which I'll take as good news.

Here we go . . . Now trying to log in to ABVFP with my email confirmed user name and password which is triple checked, I'm getting this:

Connection Error. Please check parameters in the file configuration php.

I don't know how to do that.

    Thanks, Shoemaker

This is impossible. One possible reason could be that, eiher in the username or password, you have a white (blank) space before or after. Try it.
If it doesn't work, please send me your ABVFP (and possibly, your account) login details and i will have a look.

I sent you the info you requested. I still don't know how to get to the log in page without going through the installation process again. I'm sure there were no spaces in name or password.

    Thanks, Shoemaker
