What's it worth?

I am new to BV and have 2 sites published but one of the 2 is not complete and I don't expect it will be for months. I have created a successful site with another host which has given me a measure of confidence.

I have found a rather expensive product that I want from a retail store in my home town. This store is expanding---actually moving to a new showroom doubling their current space. They do not have an Internet presence and I believe they would benefit from getting one for informational purposes now and perhaps for sales later. I think I've learned enough of BV to create an informational site and would like to barter with this store for a reduction on the price of the item I want.

I want to be fair with them but have no idea what the rate would be. I recall reading somewhere $150 for the first page and $75 for additional pages. Any suggestions as to what my work would be worth would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if I can convince this store of the merits of trading with me, I think it would be best if they purchased their own VH account. Could I or should I add it to the account I already have, maybe that isn't even allowed, if just seems as if they would want their own. Comments?

Think of the hours you will be putting in for this site. Then pick a reasonable price you think you should be making an hour.

Oh gosh, I can't type very well so it takes me forever. Don't think I could use that as a guideline. What is the going rate for a small 6-8 page informational web site?

VodaHost Terms of Service and ICANN Laws both stipulate that each individual domain owner be the same as the account holder at VodaHost (in other words, it must be your domain hosted within your account and not belonging to another), otherwise it constitutes "reselling of hosting services" which is expressly prohibited.

The only way around this is for you to be the legal owner of the domain hosted within your account, and for you to simply charge him for use of it and for whatever website is up there to direct traffic to him accordingly. This still means that you are liable for the website compliance, and that full and legal responsibility for rights and use of the domain is yours alone (something most people do not like, for once they associate with a domain, they prefer to keep it indefinitely).

Your website worth, like anything else on the planet, is directly determinable by the value others place on it according to the desire they experience: if your work is shoddy, then you certainly cannot ask the moon, right? But then again, for those who do not produce internet services professionally, much leeway is allowed (results) and accordingly pricing reflects this axiom.

Typical BV created websites average $195 for a 5-7 page site with an email form and even a forum.....and then again, it depends on the level of proficiency you can reliably produce. Extra pages top out at around $25. Just food for thought.....

Wow Vasili, you have given me much food for thought. I've had a preliminary conversaton with the shop owner. She is very interested and wants me to put together a proposal for some time in November. Your information will help greatly. Thank you very much!
