Thread: Hit a wall!

I just can't seem to grasp how to continue.
I registered my domain with Vodahost,
I've gotten my welcome letter and follow-up
directions, and have spent two days trying to
just get my site up and running.

I don't understand anything about what to do
in the DNS area, it doesn't really say in the instructions.
Why do I need to do this?

Also, I am totally lost about adding my domain to the
cPanel as an add-on domain. Why do I need to do this?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

What exactly is happening in the DNS area?

While your domain is being updated (it can take anywhere from 2 hours to 4 days), you need to review the tutorials repeatedly to fully understand the logical processes, so when you face other stumblings later on, you will have a foundational familiarity with the procedures to find other solutions with your new found ability to see "holes" in what you did or need to do.

It is always the smallest of things that we miss that foul us up later on!

The DNS area contains a list where the # 1 and 2 spots are filled with two codes, both are: "ns#.vodahost.com" (There is an actual number instead of the # symbol) These are the same numbers listed in my welcome letter.
Do I replace these codes with my domain or what? I seem to get conflicting info with my instructions and the tutorial.

where is your domain sitting? Is it here at Voda - or somewhere else? If somewhere else - you need to go there and have it pointed back to those addresses.

If you got the domain name for free with your account from VH, you don't need to setup your DNS, they are already setup correctly.

If instead, your domain name is one purchased independently, then you need to setup the DNS. From what you wrote above, you don't need to do anything. Just wait for the DNS propagation through the net so your site becomes visible.

However, you can already publish, )if the DNS propagation is not yet complete) using the temp IP address that VH sent you.

Yes, my domain is registered with vodahost.

I was also wondering if my home page should be
"index" without any extensions?
Right now it has the .bvp extension. (index.bvp)
Do I need to add an htm extension?

Ok, your website is ok, it is showing up. No pages published. Now, if you use BV, save the homepage as "index" all lowercase and publish it.

As the tutorials state, the .bvp is the name given in the blue voda
builder program. When you save your first page, save as index
(no extentions). Then publish using the publish icon at the top of
the builder, this will magically convert to index.html on the server.
The ns# you were refereing to is the name of your server at
Voda. ***** will fix that up for you (he is the guro of this outfit!).

Welcome and take your time reading the tutorials, no need to get
in a hurry.
