This is my first post here. I am building a website - never built one before so i'm a complete novice. anyone know where I can get some good free "counters" from ?

What do you want it to do? The stats in awstats are great. I also use the free version of stat counter for some of their stats. They will put a counter on the site, but I always go invisible - is more professional. But if that's all you want, there are lots of them out there - just google it.
