Cool Having a small problem with my sound music on my web pages..

    Hello Everyone,

I haven't worked on my web pages or web sites for quite some time due to being ill and I had brain surgery to replace my shunt 4 weeks ago. I've just started working on web pages again but when I checked some of my pages I created quite a while back I found out that all of a sudden they were not playing any music and before they did.

I bought new speakers a couple of days ago. I did have a mono speaker set and when I had that my web pages played the music fine. Now I have this stero set and for some odd reason not all of the web pages that played music before are working now. I don't know if it is the speaker system or not. My fiance says it isn't that something is wrong with the web pages but I made no changes to these pages I already created since I got sick and before I got so sick the sound was coming out of them fine. I have no idea what could have happened. Do you all have any idea what might have happened or what I can do to possibly correct this problem?

    Thanks!

    Terri

Here are the two web sites I'm referring to. I'm having trouble with the sound on both of these sights with some of the pages:

    www.terrilynnspencer.com and www.terrilynnspencer.com/hydrocephalus

Cool Re: Having a small problem with my sound music on my web pages..

    Hello Vasili,

Well my fiance installed my speakers. It works in terms of when putting CDs in the computer and playing them but I checked quite a few of the pages on both web sites and I couldn't get sound other than the index page on my www.terrilynnspencer.com site.

My fiance insists there is nothing wrong with the speakers or the way they are installed. Would you mind contacting him via e-mail? He asked me to ask you if that would be ok with you if you would be willing to do that. His e-mail address is: chrisrange@charter.net

If he isn't even willing to admit he could have done something wrong in the instilliation then I might have to read the entire book and try to figure things out myself on the instillation part. He probably messed things up.

Did you check out several pages on each of the sites to make sure music was coming from both sites?

I'm feeling alot better since I had the shunt surgery 4 weeks ago. Too bad I had to suffer for a year and a half before I could get the help I needed. I had to go out of state too.

I checked out your site and there is music on every page I checked, about 8 pages on your first site and about 5 on your second ... you have a broken link on your first site, inspirations (this when clicked on goes to a page cannot be found)

Are you just not hearing the music in preview mode or when viewing on the internet? Try inserting the music again on just one page that you are not hearing and see if that makes a difference for you ...

they do all work though ....

    This Terri's fiance Christopher responding.

There is nothing wrong with the speaker installation. I setup the speakers. I tweaked the volume and, I tested them on several sites that I knew played music.

I also tested her site via my PC:

    Full-Tower
    P-III 930Mhz
    512MB RAM
    AHA-39320 HostRAID
    SCSI Ultra320 147GB(4)
    ** CD-R/W 10x12x16
    ATI Radeon
    Viewsonic Q71 1280x1024
    Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS
    Logitech Z-2200 140W

It doesn't work on my PC either.

It will naturally work, if you try to access it from inside your intranet but, when accessing her site from the outside, it doesn't work anymore.

The problem is on your end, not hers.

While on the page that is supposed to play music- go to Tools>Internet Options and then click on the Advanced tab. Scroll down to MultiMedia. Make sure a check is in the "Play music in web pages"

Some times, when programs are installed or when security patches or an anti-virus program is installed- these settings can get undone.

Additiionally- I believe under the properties of the volume control on soundblaster- there are several choices for "playback". Make sure that "line in" is checked and any other one that would apply.

And I would doubt that it is a problem with the server. Reason- is that it plays for many here testing it as requested. Seeings how this covers a multitude of platforms, computers, soundcards and internet settings- it all points to a problem locally. You mention "Intranet"- I can assume that you are behind a router? Maybe there is a problem there.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello,

This is Terri. I forgot to mention one thing about this whole thing that makes this a bit odd. On my Inspirational Site, the ONLY page that I can hear sound coming out of at all is my home page or index page. All of the other pages, no sound works at all and I didn't make any changes at all. I did try to reset the music on a couple of pages just to see if that would do anything but it didn't work.

My index page on my home page to my Inspirations to Life at www.terrilynnspencer.com is the only page I can actually get sound to come out of. When my fiance Chris tried it from his computer, he gets the same result. It was working ok a few days ago so I don't know if the new speaker system and/or router or even cable modum has anything to do with this or not. I just thought it was odd that only one page out of both sites play but nothing else will anymore.

Anday, I'll try what you are suggesting next and see what that does next! Thanks for all of your support and help on this!

    Hello Andy,

I just went to the tools and options and advanced options like you suggested and looked to make sure the "music for web pages" was still checked and it was so that is still ok.

As far as what you mention about this "playback" thing I'm not sure what you are referring to, but my fiance can play video and web pages from his computer ok with no trouble. We do have a router connecting our computers together. Oh another thing, I can't hear other websites that I didn't create through my speakers either that I know play music... yet I can hear CDs with my speakers so I don't know what is going on yet my fiance claims my speakers were installed correctly.

I have no idea what to do next unless I can get a real computer guy out here who knows what he is doing!

    Hello,

I noticed something else too. Some other web sites I'm not able to get sound on either that are not my own that should play music. Yet I can go to other websites that have music on those and can hear music on those sites with no trouble. Does that mean that I might have a possible soft ware issue with my computer when it comes to the sound? If so, what if anything can I do to correct something like this? Would I need to take my computer back in to the place where I bought it and let them fix the soft ware issue if that might be the problem? I can't help but wonder why I can hear some web pages and not others or why I can only hear sound out of only one of my web pages in my own websites when I made no changes at all to my pages.

I'm really puzzled about this and don't know where to turn next. I just hope I don't have to spend a fortune to fix this though.

Thanks for any feedback or help and advice I can get to possibly get to fix this. I'm willing to try anything!

Hi Terri and like Vasili said, Welcome Back!

I'm in Colorado and just spent the last 30 minutes on both of your sites. Although I cannot tell you why you can't hear the music...I can tell you that I went into each and every page on both of your sites and heard music on all except 1 page (Dear Mr. Jesus--no music) But all the others had music on them.

Just wanted to let you know what a beautiful site you have and what a wonderful job you have done with it. You can tell you have put a lot of work into it. And what an inspiration! I loved The Lord's Prayer!

Anyway...I do hope that you can find out what is wrong with your computer and that it won't cost you much if anything to get it fixed. I wish I could give you some advise...but I'm just not knowledgable enough. But did want you to know that here in Colorado...I can hear all your music just great! Good Luck to you and God Bless.

Well- you said that you are through a router. Try pluging your computer directly to the cable modem (thereby taking the router out of the equation) and see if it works then. The common thread has been that both your computer and your fiance's computer-through the router- could not hear the music.

    Just a thought.

    Hi Terri,

I checked both the links you provided, and I can hear both music clips, but I did notice that your music is mono not stereo... this means it will only be heard in the left speaker. Did you edit the music or convert it yourself?
It may be just a case of having to convert the files to stereo.

How do I convert the files to stereo?
I think that is the problem! My origional speakers when I origionally did these web pages were mono speakers. The speakers I have now are sterio speakers. How do I do the conversion of doing the files from one to the other?

Wink Having a problem finding this fantastico button

Hi there I am lost in this website,

It started out great until I got to the part where you download Soholaunch and it just became a blur after that. The details are clear, login to your control panel...did that and look for the smiling fantastico face can't find that so very confusing.

Can anyone please help out there because if this program is all it is cracked up to be I would love to use it. I think they should make the site a little bit more user friendly though for novice users there is a lot of clutter on here dont you think without sounding like a moan just because I couldn't find the tab.

    Please help

Hello Mandy and anyone else who might be able to help....

Mandy I think you stumbled on my problem. I did have a mono speaker system when I origionally created these pages. Now I have a stero system I bought a few days ago as far as speakers go. If it has to do with concverting the files from mono to stero, how do I do this? I did try to reinsert a couple of the music to a one or two pages and that didn't work.

Do I need to do something in the control panel of BlueVoda to correct the problem? I don't know how to convert files and I'm not sure what you are talking about. It sounds easy to someone who is computer literate but to someone who doesn't know much about computers, it sounds complicated so please explain step by step how to convert the files from a mono to stereo format. It sounds like that "might" be why I can't get my pages to produce sound anymore.

    Hello Everyone,

I may never get this question answered as to how to convert files from a mono to sereo format if that is the reason why I can't hear my songs from my computer on line... since no one has replied.... yet I can't hold me back on creating more web pages espically where hydrocephalus is concerned. I'm finding more research on this topic daily and more new people are joining hydrocephalus support groups on line asking questions and even those who have had this condition all their lives don't know some what what I'm finding out either.... so I owe it to them to get this info out.... I just hope even if I can't hear the music, I'll still add music to each new page I create.... I may never be able to hear the music again if no one steps forward to explain how to convert files from mono to stereo format.... though I really would despertly like to find out.... will someone help? In the meantime, I'm going to create the new pages anyway with sound.... at:

    www.terrilynnspencer.com/hydrocephalus

even if I can never hear the music again myself on my own system again....

Terri, as for converting the files, I have certain music programs that will do this, but they are not free programs. I'm not sure of any programs that are free downloads that will do this job, but if it is aparent that this needs to be done, I am happy to do it for you.

    Hello,

I would appreciate it if you could do this for me. As far as these music programs though... since I want to create more pages and do quite a few more pages in the future and just keep on going, I'm going to have to buy a music program. How much do these cost? How hard are they to use once they are purchased? If they are too hard to use, I'll just forget it or if they are too expensive. Should I just go back to the mono speakers? To be honest, that sounds like the best solution to the whole thing.....

What do you think? I got rid of my mono speakers though.......

I spent a lot of money to but the stero speakers I have now.

If it isn't too much trouble and you have the time to do it, I would really appreciate it if you could just convert my files of the pages I have done. Then can you go ahead and e-mail me at www.terrilynnspencer@charter.net as to where to purchase these music programs... how much they can cost and how they work... or if it might be too complicated for me to use them?

I plan to create a lot more web pages than what I have posted now!

    Thank you so much!

    Terri

P.S... If you are willing to convert the files of the pages I already have... will you do a sample one of one page when you get a chance and let me know via e-mail or here in this thread that you have done it and which page you did it to so I can test it to see if I can hear the music just to make sure that this is the true problem?

    Thanks ever so much!.....

There is an adjustment within your own sound on your own computer to change from mono and stereo ... have you gone to control panel, sounds, etc., to see about adjusting this there??

Terri, I don't believe you need to change your speakers, especially if you can hear audio in other websites.

Firstly can you please click this link and tell me if you can hear the audio... go half way down the page and you will see a media player, press play... http://www.aussierewards.com/adverti...e/example.html

Please tell me if you heard the audio...

Terri, I have checked every page, and the audio files are in stereo... being midifiles you are not likely to find any that have been recorded as mono.

How are you placing the audio file into your web page?

Terri, I have to go for a while... after checking through all of your pages, I am satisfied that the audio files are good, there is nothing wrong there. If others can hear these files but you cannot, that only leaves one explanation... there is a setting on your computer that needs to be tweaked.

If you can be patient and go through step by step, people on here may be able to help you fix the problem.

First step: Please let me know if you could hear the audio on the link I gave you.

    Hello Mandy,

That audio file you gave me to test to see if I could hear it, yes I could. Now, what do I do next?

    Terri

P.S. I need step by step instructions on what you all are talking about with lots of detail because I am dyslexic and not good and understanding computers very well!

Even though I can hear that audio you sent me as a test, I still can't hear anything from my speakers. I wish I had just kept my mono speaker system. All of the songs I used in BlueVoda were and are midi files. I download and upload them like I think they are supposed to be uploaded correctly to make them work espeically if others can hear them on their systems and I can't.

    What step is next??

Thanks for the help and any and all help that can be given!!

    Terri....

Despite the testing, and re-testing......I didn't pick up whether or not your HD plays music or not.....(either CD's or stored files).... if so, obviously your speakers work....and not your online connections.

Try setting your IE browser back to all "default" settings.....and you may wish to download the free AOL browser, just for the heck of it (it's got a great auto-scan feature with it to always assure you of no spy or malware getting through during your online sessions). It comes in handy to check load times, and other reasons too....

Then, try Andy's suggestion to re-configure you online hookup to a more "direct" manner, bypassing the router and hard-wiring your computer straight into the cable connection. Use both IE and the newly AOL browser to test your connecton, and sound.

Everyone kind enough to test your sites flatly states that your sound plays for them (despite all different connectons, computers, sound systems, etc.), and if you can play a CD or a music file from your hard drive, then the speakers are set up fine >>> again, it is your online connection!

Not willing to step in between you two (his reply to my first post was a good indicator that his insistance it was a VodaHost problem made me take a step back), you should now see it logically as a connection challenge on your end, right?

Again, good to see you back on the block, and that you are already feeling much spiffier!

Terri, that's great that you can hear the file... this tells us there is nothing wrong with your speakers.
So far we know there is nothing wrong with your audio files on your website and there is nothing wrong with your speakers.

The file I got you to listen to was a .mp3, now I want you to try this link with a midifile http://www.aussierewards.com/Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends (Karaoke).mid this will tell us if there is a setting within your computer that needs to be fixed. I will help you with this by a process of elimination. Please try the link above, and tell me what happens.

I'm using IE7, and I have not come across that problem... maybe there is other factors effecting those people.

I agree Mandy, and users are all experiencing different problems, what may be a problem for you, might not be a problem for me and vice versa ... it's all a mess if you ask me .... and just trouble for people with their sites ....

The only problem that I have come across so far with IE7 is with pop-up's... it won't allow some pop-up's to open even though the pop-up blocker is turned off within IE7 itself. Hope Microsoft just haurry up and get the thing working properly ASAP!! Do you hear me Bill??!!! Gates that is... lol

Terri, I'm going to hop off here now, but I will leave you with a few things to check.

    1. Please check the second link I provided to you first.

    2. If you could not hear the file, please do the following:
Open your volume control by right clicking on the speaker icon in the task bar at the bottom right corner of your screen. Please look at the column that is called SW Synth. Make sure the volume slider is all the way to the top and there is no tick in the Mute box.

    3. Please click on the 2nd link I gave you again, and see if you can hear it now.

    4. If you can hear my link, please open your website and see if you can now hear your audio.

    5. If you still cannot hear your website audio, but can hear my link, please do the following: Open your Internet Browser, you need to clear your browsers cache and delete all the cookies. If you need help doing this, please say so.

Hopefully this will sort out the problem... please let me know, because if this doesn't work, I have another idea where the problem might be.
I Sing For My Soul... la, la, la...
