    Default Remote FTP Access?

    Hi,

I was wondering if there was anyway I can just go to my public ftp site without FTP software and download a file. E.g, I am at college and need a file that I have uploaded at home to my FTP public files. Can I just type in (example): ftp://ftp.deadsperm.com, find my folder in the Apache folder view and download it to the desktop?

I did try it, but it didn't work. Just wanted to know if I could do that.

    Default FTP Access

So I made a folder in my public_ftp folder and I cannot access it with IE. When I try to go to ftp.xxxxx.com, I get Windows cannot access this folder. Macke sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.

    Details:
    220-------Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS]-------
220-You are user number 2 of 50 allowed (Who are the 50 allowed?)
    220-Local time is....
220-This is a private system - No anonymous login.
220-You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
530-This is a private system - No anonymous logn.

So how do I connect to my ftp site? I have anonymous users added to my ftp manager. Plus it doesn't ask you for a login and password either, even if I didn't have anonymous user access.

I also notice that with my FTP software (SmartFTP), that I get disconnected by the client a lot, right in the middle of file transfers. Why is that?

    Thanks in advance.

First make sure that your Firewalls are not interferring with your FTP program:

    Please follow the following steps

    1) Go to your computers control panel
    2) Click on widows firewall
    3) Click on exceptions
    4) Click on add programs
    5) Add SmartFTP to your list of programs
    6) Press ok
    7) Reboot your computer

You have now successfully added SmartFtp to your safe programs
List. You should not have this problem again.

If the problem persists. Your computer might have a secondary firewall
from Norton or MacAfee. You will also have to SmartFTP to their safe
    programs list.

Also if you are working from an office or you are using your companies
computer or internet connection. You company probably has some
type of network firewall in place. Please contact your companies
    system administer for instructions.

Thanks, but my only firewall, the Windows XP firewall, has already been configured. SmartFTP says that the client or remote server is disconnecting me. I use a router, and that router has also been configured.

Also, I still cannot view my FTP with IE, even as a anonymous user.

Well, I downloaded WS_FTP. I will give it a shot since I don't know what is wrong with SmartFTP.

Charles, you might want to try FileZilla. It's good and free to boot....
