Password site

i want to have a passwords on my site so that paid members can view my site once they have paid. Is this possible, i understand i will have to use a seperate company to take the payments etc, but how do we issue the passwords, and then do they allow the customer to view things unpaid customers cant? Please help

You can use Paypal or other merchant companies to collect subscriptions
and you can have as many seperate areas on your website as you wish.

ok cheers, but you know these payment sites, where you pay by credit card, then they issue you with a username and password that you can use on your site, how does that work?

They dont issue you with username and password, they collect the payment
and send you back to the site where a script will then allow them to register and then login after they have confirmed their email address.

There are many different ways of doing the same thing..............

We have a membership script with automatic PayPal payment and automatic account activation after payment. It is based on PayPal's PDT and will activate the account automatically after the payment is done. No email verification is required in this case, but it can also ask the member to activate the account by clicking on a link in the email that he receives. The procedure is slightly different from the above: the member registers, during registration he selects the type of subscription (3 months, 6 months, 1 year etc) and the script creates a database record for that user. Then, uppon submission, the future member is automatically redirected to PayPAl, he pays, and uppon return on the site, the script opens a slot with PayPal's database, retreives the payment info, and, if everything is ok, activates the account, updating also the record with the payment details. If you do NOT expect many members, the account activation can be done manually.
