Thread: Brand New to VodaHost HELP!!

I am brand new, I just got my email from VodaHost, and this thing is overwhelming ! Where do I start?? I had already downloaded BlueVoda before joining VodaHost, do I need to uninstall it and re-install it?
I have a ton of questions, like FTP'ing , where, what, when ??
Help if you can.

You may have to wait for up to 72 hours before your domain has spread throughout the net, so in the meantime, look for the free video tutorials
and you will soon be able to answer the questions above.

How do I get the Publish in BV to work? I just tried it, and it will not.

In your welcome email, you will have been supplied a temp website address/url
Hit the publish icon (or file-publish)

in the dropdown box:

enter your temp server number (in your welcome email)
enter your username (in your welcome email)
enter your password (in your welcome email)

your first page to be published should be named

index

and nothing else.............

OK, got it ! I can get the index page to show up on the web, but the links do not work from that page. What did I do wrong??

Voda has a huge arsenal of tutorials which will help you on way. Check them out by looking at my 'Voda hot picks' which are in my signiture. This should get you going and makes things seem a whole lot easier

I watched the creating hyperlinks, I have done exactly as it says, but the link from my index.html page will not work. Guess this is harder than I thought that it was going to be.

Check the video tutorial on hyperlinking and all will become clearer.

Make sure that whatever you are linking to - that you have published that page, and that you are linking to it by it's name in the format like this

http://www.yourdomainname.com/nameofpage.html

All things need to be the same.

Change the items in red to your real names ....

I read this last night....I am usually pretty good with html, but I cant figure out why the links do not work.

I have done exactly as you stated, before you even told me, but the links do not work. Do you think it is because they gave me a temporary website url ??

JD what is the url of your site? Let us have a look and maybe we can figure it out.

When you go to the url that I provided and you click on the Baseball switchplate, it is supposed to take you to another page, but it does not...that is where I am having the problems.

It shouldn't really matter but i noticed the link on the very first button on the left is linkling to http://weareswitchplates.com/baseball.html. Try changing this to http://www.weareswitchplates.com/baseball.html.

I had this problem once, thinking back now, and this seemed to cure it.

You must wait for up to 72 hours before the full URL has propogated throught the net......your link is correct but not fully available yet.......

Did not work....

Your problem is simply that your domain name has not yet propagated on the net. I.e., your basketball page, for now will show up as
http://75.126.169.140/~hxdxtkij/baseball.html

but not as http://www.weareswitchplates.com/baseball.html

because simply http://www.weareswitchplates.com still doesn't exist on the net. Please wait 24 - 48 (usually much sooner) hours before the DNS propagation is complete.

Try Changing to

You should be able to look at the hard code via BV to do this by clicking on a button within it. Not quite sure myself where it is as I don't use it but david might be able to tell you that one.

OK, Navaldesign...I know exactly what you are saying, but even with naming the link http://75.126.169.140/~hxdxtkij/baseball.html it still does not come up when I click on it from the index.html page.

Because you probably had not refreshed the page. After you did, it worked.

Just make sure to change the links back to the original once your web address has been propagated on the net otherwise the links will probably not work again.

Direct (through IP address) links work always, even when the dns servers are down.
However, normal links are better for SE
