Thread: Addon domain done correctly?

I followed the steps in the Addon tutorial, and got a "published successfully" message when I published my index page. Why am I not able to see my second site (www.howardruback.com)? I'm subscribed with BV Host, so is there something else I needed to do to register the domain name?

Did you purchase the domain? You need to do this ...

unless you just wanted a sub-domain to your account ...
(this would be different)

I was under the impression that my purchase of a BV Host subscription included unlimited domain names. Is this correct?

What is the difference between this and a sub-domain?

In a way you are correct Sandra yes. You can have as many domain as you like within your one voda hosting account. However you do need to purchase each domain individually, they are renewable each year ...
and each one can be added to your account via the "add on domain" method that you already are familiar with.

The difference between an add-on domain and a sub-domain is this.

An add-on domain, is a domain purchased by itself, added to your account and would have the url (web address) like you added in your first post. It is independent from your main account domain.

A sub-domain is free and is actually part of your main domain, can be added free, however, the link (url) (address) will include part of your main domain and would look like this ...

If I have it as a sub-domain, will it still show up in search engines? For instance, if someone googles 'Howard Ruback', will they get to my sub-domain?

Yes Sandra, they will, and of course this means doing all the things necessary for that .. you might even name one of your pages as howardruback as well, use that name alot, all over your page, in descriptions, page titles, keywords on the page, etc., just the same as you normally do ...

You know the domains are not too pricey, you might consider one, and then it is independent ... or you can wait until you reach I think it is 500 posts and you receive a free domain complimentary of Voda Host ... and then you could transfer your pages and do what would be necessary for it's own domain....
