Everything was working fine, it seems like config issue.

Seems like a config file is missing, as the user details are not passed to the script.

Had a fiddle around with config.php, spot on nav.
Downloaded th source file and replaced the whole file re-edited.

Done, what happens next or what does cron do ?

Seems like your site is up and running after this. Not sure what you mean by "what happens next or what does cron do ?".

Cron is a time scheduled execution of a script. If your script requires a cron for its correct functioning, you must first find out what excactly is the script (part of your entire site script) that neeeds to be run, and the frequency (once an hour, once a day, or other). Fot those i can only suggest that you ask help in the phpauction support forum or help desk.
However, if you have installed phpauction through Fantastico, the cron jobs should have been automatically configured during script installation.
