Default difference of domain name/index.html and domain name/

Hi, I have created a new index.html with hit counter and uploaded to my public_html folder.I have two index pages-the old one appeared as xuankong-liufa.com/ and the new one appeared as xuankong-liufa.com/index.html.

How can I do away the old one. Why is it the directory not going straight to search for index.html file and appeared as xuankong-liufa.com/index.html as I have earn it to be , instead of having both?

2-Can I delete the indexhtml text file in public_html folder so as to remove all the existing first page html content and to write a new fresh one to upload with fresh new index.html content and pages?

3-please show where I can read up more on this issues

Hi, the index page is the one that is 1st looked for by the Internet. So certainly not a good idea to have a index.html. Normally the 1st page that is looked for in the index & this is the only way a visitor will land on your site if you give them your main url.
