new website (group forums)

Hello,

I want to set up a web site for a certain group of people, and I need to have the following to begin with:

1) a personal directory listing, (name, phone # and address)
2) business directory listing
3) search engine for members and businesses
4) forum discussions topics
5) creation of various groups within the site
6) members to be able to upload photos and videos
7) a section where the site will have news, articles, events etc.
a small market place
9) a run-on site advertising system

And perhaps add up additional features with the growth of the site and as per members demand……

Something similar to facebook but in a smaller scale for a specific group of people.

Can somebody please tell me what kind of software engineer would I need to put this website together for me?? Since I know nothing about programming. is somebody with php knowledge enough to do it??

You should check out a CMS (content management system) type builder like Joomla, Mambo.. and several others that are included with your hosting. They are able to multi serve this kind of a website and information. If you dont yet have hosting, google content management system and go from there.

I will try to do some google search tomorrow to understand a little bit more about content management system.

The problem is that I live in China and I wanted to put an add in the local papers to hire somebody to prepare the website for me and I wanted to know what kind of qualifications I should ask.

By the way, I didn't understand when you said "If you dont yet have hosting" do you mean webhosting?? because I bought space from voda host.

Hi,

If you have a hosting account with Vodahost, then you can loginn to your control pannel, and access Joomla, Mambo and others, that are there to be installed.

You can try them all, to choose the one you like the most.
Just install and unistall them.

I'll try them this afternoon. Today is my wife's BD, I will take her out :)

BTW, can I make modifications such as add up forms for my needs, or I am limited with what they offer only.

I visited your website, very nice, it takes a little bit time to download, I am a tea drinker :)
