Question about page names

I have done everything but now find I have a created a problem for myself although I have re-watched the videos and don't see where I've done anything wrong. The situation is that when I try to protect my index http://www.spanishverbsmarthours.com, it also protects my advertising page http://www.spanishverbsmarthours.com/2.html so that the password promt is either on both of them or on neither.
Is this becaus3e I've named my pages wrong?
Please help.

You can only protect a complete folder/directory and as your index is in your public_html directory, you must create a new folder and protect that one....not your public_html one.

You cannot password protect pages ... you can only protect Directories.
If you protected the main public_html/ directory for your domain (which can be done, but is highly irregular), then every page within that domain is also protected.

If you want your main domain to bring visitors to your site which is open to the public then you should not protect that main public_html/ directory.

If you want another set of pages protected, you wil need to both create a directory within the Password Protect admin area by giving it a name, and then publish those pages to that directory only.
*Keep in mind, your first page to the protected directory must be named index, as every directory must have an index page and only one index page.

Thus, if the first page of your protected area is "2.html" you will need to rename it "index" and add the info to the Publish Dialog box in Blue Voda to look like this: public_html/nameofdirectory and then publish this "new" index page as normal.

And as I mentioned before, if you intend to link to pages that are within the same protected directory, your links will look something like this (example of moving from page 2 to page 3): www.spanishverbsmarthours.com/protecteddirectoryname/index.html (your Home page -- the old #2)
www.spanishverbsmarthours.com/protecteddirectoryname/3.html etc

Remember that when you navigate from your protected area back to your main "open" site and back to the protected area, you will be required to Login again. You can link to any page in the protected area directly (like skipping the index and page 2 to get to page 3), but you will be required to log in also.

Thank you but I guess I explained it backwards. The 1st page I want to protect is my index (http://www.spanishverbsmarthours.com). The viewable, advertising, page would be http://www.spanishverbsmarthours.com/2.html. But part of the problem is that I've had trouble setting up a new directory in order to password protect it. I've tried and rewatched the beginner's videos as well.
I know that without seeing what I'm doing, it's impossible to tell me what's wrong. So could you explain specifically the steps I need to do using my file names?
Needless to say, I feel very, very stupid right now.

1) rename your
index ( http://www.spanishverbsmarthours.com )
by saving as
tempindex

2) rename your 2.bvp ( http://www.spanishverbsmarthours.com/2.html )
by saving as
index
and republish to public_html
( http://www.spanishverbsmarthours.com )

3) create a new folder (call it membersonly)

4) rename
tempindex to
index
save and publish to
public_html/membersonly

Dont forget to change all your links accordingly

I think I'm getting there but something is still wrong or I'm missing a step. I've gotten down through step 3 and made the file membersonly but how do you publish to public_html/membersonly. It just goes to public_html and tells me I already have (the new/old /2) index.

You have already used it when you published your pages, its the one with your server number, username and your password.

Just a bit of info to add. Inside your BV folder on your computer you will need to add an additional folder to "store" your second index page (you can keep all of the password protected pages there to make it easier to organize them) as you cannot have 2 index pages in the same folder.

I gather you are are talking about accessing the c panel because you mentioned using the using the the logins in my welcome packet. I've looked and on don't see it anuwhere

???? Did we get lost again? No idea what you are talking about. If you are talking about publishing a bv site.. you go to file.. and publish is listed there.

Hopefully found the right thread this goes to. If not.. well, im sorry.. youre going to have to be more OBSERVANT where you are posting what to .

This is your publish dialog box that comes up when you click the publish icon in Bluevoda. (note that its set to publish to folder
public_html
(your main folder)

After you have created the NEW FOLDER called membersonly (or whatever)
you add
/membersonly
after the public_html in the folder box as seen below. (ignore the last character - its the cursor)
