    Default Subdomain enquiry

Hello everyone. I know I've asked this before, several months ago, but I can't find my original thread. So here I go again...

I'm trying to publish to one of my subdomains - how is the address formed so I can link the index page to my separately registered domain?

After my Server IP and username, is the address meant to read:

    public_html/talenttalk.endymiondreams.html/index
    ?

    Or should it read:

    public_html/talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/index.html ?

Or maybe it should look like this?:

    public_html/talenttalk.endymiondreams.com/index

Or is it something else entirely? I try to link through the domain I own (completely separate from Bluevoda/Vodhost) but however I form the link to the index page, nothing works and I have to revert to the old version I use on a different website building program.

My main domain here is "endymiondreams" and my subdomain, for a separate site I'm trying to get published and done for Christmas, is called "talenttalk".

I hope I've included enough information. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. :D

    Hi Dodo

    You have:

    A VH site called:
    http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/

A subdomain on the site above called:
    http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/

    And a non-VH domain:
    http://www.talenttalk.co.uk/

To link from the first or second site to the last one, the URL is:
    http://www.talenttalk.co.uk/

I apologise if I have your post confused!

I wasn't fast enough to edit my post to add this, but if your endymiondreams.co.uk domain is your primary one here with VH, and you're trying to publish to the talenttalk subdomain, then 'after server IP and username' the address you publish to will look like this:

    public_html/talenttalk

In other words, just type in talenttalk after public_html and hit the publish button

If the page you're trying to publish is your index page, it should be named index

Thankyou Sunchaser! :D I'm sorry its taken me a while to reply to your help.

I've been publishing the pages under the
public_html/talenttalk, but it was the ways of linking to specific pages either together or to my external domain that I was struggling with.

So to link the index page to the domain I'd have to type http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/index.html and to link the pages together, it'd be http://www.talentalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/pagename.html... right?

I'll give it a go and see what happens. :D
Apologies if I'm being a bit slow. I'm just trying to make sure everything is straight in my head. :D
    Thanks again!

Okay, it doesn't seem to have worked. The link I used to try to get the domain to load up my index page is:

    http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/index

Wait a sec... do i need the .html on the end of the address? I'll try that and get back to you. Otherwise, would I need to insert my User IP and username beforehand? Maybe something like...?

    http://IP/username/www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/index

*sighs* Sorry, I tried putting .html on the end of the address but to no avail.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

oh, wow! Yes, it does! I'll have to put that address out for now until i can get my domain host to accept it!! *grinz*

So is this the link I use to connect the site pages together too, do you know? To link to the Andrew Lee Potts index, do I put :

    http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.../alpindex.html

... and that will link to the homepage for his side of the site?

Thankyou both, Sunchaser and Ladyeye! Have a fantastic Christmas and an even better New Year! :D

    Hi Dodo

Hope I'm not getting this more confused! :)

I'm not entirely sure why you're using the word 'index' in your URLs.

Is there a reason that http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/index.html

    and http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/alpindex.html

    can't just be: http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk ?

    And http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams...andrewleepotts ?

The index page is normally the homepage - with the name 'index' being automatically converted to your domain name when you publish.

Yes, using the URL http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.../alpindex.html as a link will take a web user to the page for Andrew Lee Potts.

I see that you only have a couple of links in place as yet. Are you having problems with learning how to link pages together? The VodaHost video tutorials are very good.

So to link the index page to the domain I'd have to type http://www.talenttalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/index.html and to link the pages together, it'd be http://www.talentalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/pagename.html... right?

When you say you want to link the 'index page to the domain' do you mean you want to link http://www.endymiondreams.co.uk to your subdomain http://www.talentalk.endymiondreams.co.uk ??

The link to the homepage of your subdomain, from any other page is just: http://www.talentalk.endymiondreams.co.uk

To link to any page on your subdomain (talentalk) other than the homepage of talentalk is: http://www.talentalk.endymiondreams.co.uk/pagename.html (which is just as you thought it was :) )

    Hope that helps!

Thanks Sunchaser! Thats was just the information I needed. :D It finally works! Woohoo!

Just to clear up, there are two interlinked sites coming off the main Index page so thats why I've named the main pages of each separate site "alpindex" and "sjpindex" - it doesn't seem to cause any problems so thats not bad, is it? *lol*

Thankyou so much for your help, your time and your patience and have a lovely Christmas and New Year.
    Dodo.
