Thread: guestbook spaming

My guest book is being signed by people adding links and advertising cilias etc, can the be stopped somehow or should they be reported to some one,it is becoming quite frustrating

You will need to go into your settings to approve all posts so that they arent published. This is an issue with guestbooks.

Hi Karen, BV hasn't got this facility. But they could turn off the BB code & URL's which might help a bit.
Also make sure you have the "Enable captcha" box ticked.

I as a rule dont run guestbooks because of the spam issues etc. So.. ive never tested BV's

Before I also got a lot of spam on my guestbook. Then I added the captcha thing and since three days ago I'm starting to get spam even with the captcha. Could a more advanced captcha thing be created so that it is harder to be read by a robot?

The CAPTCHA cannot be automated ---- it is a person who has zeroed in on your Guestbook as a place to take advantage of to promote links, URL's, etc.

This is why most of us refrain from using a Guestbook, and lean toward a forum or blog (where there are more advanced controls on how people register, how you pre-screen posts, and how you can ban IP's accordingly).
