the bad news is that there is no foolproof method....& that is why you'll hear most Vodapeople recommending NOT to have a Guestbook at all!!
I took their advice & I can live without one :)

Not sure if there is any free ones out there? But best to get one that you can approve the postings before they are shown. This post comments has this facility.
