Are you not understanding incoming smtp, like checking your email, or smtp like sending email out from your site to an external server

Basically i'm told i need to use smtp authentication for my soho site as it isn't sending mail from it at the moment. I've got outlook express and have used the settings within cpanel to set up the mail client
