Thread: Publishing my new site

I have an account with voda host with domain name cafcoop.org. I published in this account using soholaunch which publishing automatically.

I have now acquired a new domain ghsscam.org. I created an addon domain in my cpanel and also created an ftp account.

My new site has been designed using dreamweaver MX. I successfully defined my site in dreamweaver and uploaded the site to my server, but when I try to view the site in the internet and the page display

• cgi-bin/

On checking my Cpanel file manager I realised the site was uploaded to a sub directory call ghsscam under my public_html folder and not my ghsscam.org dormain.

I supposed I went through all the publishing steps.What then could be the problem why the site is not viewed in the internet. Please, help.

It published correctly... You most likely didnt publish a lower case index to your folder ghsscam

an addon domain makes a sub folder..so its doing it correctly

My index.html is in lower case. I took time to check all that.

Your site is coming up, but with no page files. Are you publishing to public_html/ghsscam

This is where I get confused. The public_html/ghsscam is the subfolder greated when I uploaded my site.

I was expecting the folder to be under ghsscam.org rather then in public_html. From Karen's comment it seems the folder is correctly placed and my index file name is also correct.

Why then is the page coming up but with no content. The website is a new one I have just started designing and it now has only one page; the index page.

Have you been to the folder at your server & checked in the ghsscam folder to see if your index page has uploaded ok.
It seems odd that on the link to your site is showing no files at all (with the exception of the cgi) if you have uploaded to this folder. You could even try uploading a small test image just to make sure things are going to the right folder.

I have checked in my Cpanel file manager and the entire site files are found in the ghsscam folder.

Please, someone should let me know whether the ghsscam folder is supposed to be in public_html/ghsscam.org/ghsscam or it should be in public_html/ghsscam.

The ghsscam.org is an addon domain in my main domain call cafcoop.org

Charles, this is confusing at first. I know, I made a mess of my folders when I started.

ur public_html foder is ur first domain - cafcoop.org and
ur public_html/ghsscan is ur add-on domain - ghsscam.org 2 which u have 2 publsih.
do not try 2 publsih 2 ghsscam.org or 2 public_html/ghsscan.org

As per previous post, have you published to public_html/ghsscam
This is where your site will reside.

Well you also have to create it as an ADDON DOMAIN in cpanel and PURCHASE the domain and point it to your account servers.

You cant simply create a folder.

Also.. the ftp generally gives you access only to the ftp folder.. you need to use the MAIN password and user name for you voda account to PUBLISH dreamweaver files to the CORRECT folder. Not an ftp account.

The link you gave seem to display what is in the website but I don't understand how it became that way. I intended to publish to ghsscam which is an addon domain in the cafcoop.org main domain. The files are found in ghsscam but can not be published.

I don't intend to have my url include cafcoop in it. In dreamweaver my remote host was defined with login as ghsscam@cafcoop.org and the ftp server as ftp.cafcoop.org

Please, urgently correct this so I can delete and start all over again.

the problem is that u r publishing 2 a folder (ghsscam) that u manually created in ur main domain http://www.cafcoop.org/ghsscam/index.html

think of it this way.... cafcoop.org & ghsscam.org r 2 different streets. but the ghsscam in http://www.cafcoop.org/ghsscam/index.html is a house on that street; which is not the same as a street with the same name. In one u r publishing 2 the house & the over to the street.

hope that did not confuse things more.

u need 2 create the add-on domin (www.ghsscam.org) thru cpanel, this will automatically create a folder 4 u

ur best bet is delete the folder recreate the add-on domain & republsih.

In dreamweaver your remote host should be the HOST you are publishing too...

ghasscam.org
your login should be. Your master USER name
Your password should be the master password.
your path should be
public_html/ghasscam/

It SHOULD login you into the correct folder.. but you need to make sure thats where its going..

Karen, I realised the only error I made was using my ftp login and password to upload file from Dreamweaver rather than the main username and password.

I have deleted everything and started from scratch. I verified and the files are in the right folder but still the same problem occured.

Karen, can you send my your email so I could forward my cpanel username and password to you for a complete checkup. The problem is really above me.

I understand what you mean. I am in Cameroon (Africa) and we don't have paypal here. It is 10:57 pm in the night here and I struggling to sort this problem before morning. Its a whole headache transfering money from this end.

Yeah im here.. as I said.. I dont have time to do this so.. either login to your cpanel yourself and look at what folders are there.. or put in a support ticket and see if they will assist you.. look and see if you have a folder with .org on it. If so.. publish to it

It now works. I published directly to ghsscam.org folder and it seem to be working.
