when you enter code into the start or head tag you can't go back and edit/remove, yet they have been added to the page code.

Can you give more information about this? I don't understand.

In page html you have 6 section, "start, Between head etc

when you place items in either 2 thinks happen

1. what goes into start also shows in head
2. if you go back to remove or edit the information has gone, but still shows up in the page HTML
