Thread: Very Slow Downloading.......

hello....

it has come to my attention that my page is loading very slow.
alexa claims it takes 7 seconds. and is very slow compared to other pages. i have also had numerous people tell me the same thing.

what can i do to speed it up some???

It's a HUGE page with lots on it. Maybe think about breaking it down, making it smaller and putting some of the stuff onto another page. It loaded pretty quickly for me (2Mb broadband) on Slimbrowser.

Your page loaded very quickly IE6 and in Firefox ( I did have to hit refresh thou). But like Amanda I too have 2MB broadband.

I noticed a slight horizontal scroll.

thank you both for checking out the speed. im sure both of you have high speed internet, but my concern is also the people who use "dial up", it my take long for them to download and nobody wants to wait more than a few secounds for something to download. this would cause countless page viewers to go elsewhere. not good for me.

i didnt think i had that many graphics that would slow it up but....... I guess im going to have to figuere out somthing.

bill you said you have firefox... does the page look ok to you? my firefox shows the images out of place as well as into the wording.

i just want to make sure others arent seeing the same effects on thiers.

would anybody care to check and put my fears at rest.

Your site loaded fine for me, but I know it would have been really slow back when I was using dialup. I know it's tough, because you want to get as much as possible out there, but you'll need to cut some stuff to increase the load time for users with slower connections.

Horizontal scroll is when a page is too wide and the reader is forced to scroll sideways to use it (very annoying). Your's is a tad wide and I'm sure a user using 800X600 screen res would have to scroll sideways to see it all.

i thought i had that problem licked months ago... i got a 19 moniter and thats why it always looks small to me. i might have to redo the page anyway because navel told me hes seeing the burning lines out of place as well as the images on his fire fox browser but the internet explorer is fine so im waiten to see what navel suggestions will be.

im hoping he has a Ace up his sleeve. :)

if not ill just redo the page and work ALL the bugs out once and for all.
just hate like hell to waste those couple hours redoing it when i could be optimizing instead.

Looks good in Firefox, except for the burning lines showing up between these lines (not overlapping) whereas in IE6 the lines shows up after the paragraph. See below

Your website is full of useless graphics and code that make your
page very heavy. Get rid of the those firefox banners and your free
google adverts and all the other none revenue generating banners
and links you have. Your one step away from being a banner farm.

Also run all your pictures through pix resizer >> http://www.vodahost.com/pix.htm

And you should speed up your page by 50% or more.

Also, I suggest you get yourself a header - people need to know who you are and have faith in you. Right now, you're just a page of advertisement, but nothing giving you credibility.

Well thank you for the Advice.......General. i have redone some work on the page and will get rid of some of the "****" that wont make me any money and is waying my page down.
As for the google ads they do pay. I will use the smaller less conspicuos variations, not the skys****er ads but just the link units. as well as get rid of Some of the google buttons,hopefully it will help. And have resized the pictures also. good tips thankz

bethers... thank you for the codes and the help. i as well have listened and placed my name on top of the page as well as rearranged the search box. (when i thought about it your right) im not giving them a chance to read the page so its been moved to the bottom. Also i placed links to the site were they will go plus added a button or two.

As for the code i <H1> tags i finally figuered out what you ment. i thought they were added in the edit page properties or the next link down that would be HTML.
but was at another forum and realised after reading their post "about using java" that you must have ment the HTML on the page itself!
so i tried it and it worked :) "at least i hope im right"

I have dial up and it loaded really fast. and for ME to say that...lol...It does need to be centered tho...

hi kate.. everytime i do center it somebody or another tells me that they have to scroll sideways to see everything.
I will again try and center let me know if it ok.
