Thread: Page rank has gone up

Don't really know how significant it is but my site has risen from a 3 to a 4 page rank.

Still not a year old, so I am very happy, search engine traffic has trebled in the last couple of months also.

Big thank you must go to Beth for all her help, she has been great for building my knowledge up and helping put my site right on the map.

You're very welcome - and that's a sign that Google considers you more of an authority - and that you've done a good job optimizing. Hopefully it means they send you more traffic, too! (No guarantee there - but it is part of their algorhythm).

Yeah, this is encouraging to those of us still languishing with a PR of NOUGHT!! lol! :-

But all in due time... if the search engines sense one is an authority, they will rank one, so I try and add articles to online directories, plus build a real repository (Resources page) ON my site so I have both links pointing back at me and point outwards, plus give genuine content, like Dr. Ralph Wilson of wilsonweb.com...

PR is always good as it does make you more of an authority site and it make the links that you give out to other people (their links on your site) more valuable because of your higher PR giving them a link increases their importance as well. Some people with a high PR even charge people for giving them a link......

There you go Dori, I checked your site out for you aswell, it came back as a 0. But I was stuck on this for a while until I learnt loads of things from this fantastic forum. I do have a lot of information on my site and update regular which I know really helps, plus it is all unique material. With that lovely smile of yours you deserve a 10........You do have a great looking site though, is it new?

Seriously when I first started I got quoted £20 a month by a site with a page rank of 5. I will have to keep working.

Yeah, PR is a big thing... I notice that 'heavyweight' sites dont even consider you unless you have a PR of 2 or more... for linking purposes...

I got a question tho... with all the hassles I had with the installation and uninstalling of the Google toolbar (see other post) how can one put it back in? I had it fine in IE until I started mucking around with uninstalling etc. It's still on Firefox but not IE??

Anyone know how to quickly put the PR icon back into the Google toolbar??

tks for this... yeah, I did do this earlier today ... the Microsoft support desk guy helped me Uninstall it and then reinstall it; before it had the PR icon in it no probs... but afterwards it just disappeared! Boom! Prisoner of Azkaban! lol........ :-

I dont know if I should just RE-install it? it's a pain tho, all the hassles and ins and outs, you spend all your time mucking around with a flipping toolbar of all things... lol.

I have it in Firefox but not in IE... oh well.

Sorry not to hijack Karel's thread either ... but leebring ... in your signature you have your link to your site, however, when you linked it you have forgotten the fe in defense in your url ... so you link is not working, might want to fix that in your signature ...

I am actually now on page two for the word 'anxiety' with 54,000,000 sites I am very happy with this. This is the result of hard work, Beth helped a lot with on-line optimazation which I know really helped. But I have done a hell of a lot of work getting natural links to my site. I used to spend everyday writing articles and passing them on to high ranked relevant sites. This was the best way to get one way links, people would link with me in return for an exclusive article. I have around 30 articles out there and they have been picked up by a lot of people. Some sites list them and you are allowed to use the information as long as I get the credit. A lot of one way links are from people who have come across my site and just decided they liked it and linked without my knowledge. I also ask around 5 times a week for links to my site, some ask for a recipricol and some don't.

I have been on plenty of forums with my sig attached and I have found my name in forums on the same subject where others recommend my site. Below is an example

I have links from all my ebay accounts, links from friends sites, directorys and a few other ways. I do have a lot of links and I have worked hard, the main thing is to have a good site that people will want to link with, hopefully I have this.

That's pretty damn good Dream Lady, keep working and you do get the rewards, but a 3 is higher than most sites of your content that I could find.

Googles PR algo went haywire for a while in Feb and is beginning to settle in. It was really frustrating to watch!
