    Default Sitemap error with google

I used BV sitemap generator to create my sitemap and submitted it to google. It has come back twice with the following error message:

    Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.

Here is the link to my sitemap if anyone can figure out the issue it would be greatly appreciated www.durlandgolf.com/sitemap.xml

My second issue is my website used to show in google when you seached durland golf, Mark Durland golf, etc..... A company by the name of Zoominfo captured my website and when you would search the above it would go to Zoominfo which had links to the different pages on my website. I emailed them to release my website on 8/10/08 and they did but google has not picked it up again. Just wondering if anyone has any input.

    Mark,

I had this issue once with the sitemaps, but damned if I can remember how I solved it!!! I will try to think and come back to you if no one else comes up with anything first. One thing, try completely remaking the sitemap again. Preferably use the built in one in BV now.

With regards to your second issue, give that time, it will repair itself.

    Marincky,

Thank you for your input......my second issue has repaired itself as you mentioned.

As for the first issue I've tried the BV sitemap generator multiple times to no avail. I was reading (sitemap errors//i'm confused) and followed Vasili's advice again (read the same advice in an earlier post). At any rate I can't figure it out.

Question: If I use the BV sitemap generator I should remove the XML links to my sitemap from my website?

Whichever way you choose for the sitemap you still need the link to http://www.durlandgolf.com/sitemap.xml on your site.

I dont see what problems you would have with using the BV sitemap generator. Tick the box to say 'generate sitemap' and type your url in and then republish your site.

    Marincky,

Alright, I republished my sitemap using BV. It was in a pending status with google for the last week. Finally today I got the same error message:

    Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.

I'm clueless and ready to give up. Is it really important to submit your sitemap to google?

If your or anyone would take one more look at my website and sitemap and see if there is something I'm missing it would be much appreciated.

    www.durlandgolf.com/sitemap.xml

    Thanks again,
    Mark

    Mark,

If your home page had links to all your other pages on it then I would say that it's not VITAL to have a sitemap, it's quite likely that the search engines would pick up on these links and therefore index your other pages.

However, your links on your site are buttons so that puts a bummer on that one, unless you're prepared to remove the buttons and replace with text links? Or... put both on there. You could have a text navigation link at the bottom of your home page?
