Default Sitemap generator: BV vs xml-sitemaps.com

I have downloaded BV version 10.1 and tried using the sitemap generator under the Tools menu for my site www.africandreamadventuresafaris.com.

Using BV's tool I only get 6 URL's. I have also tried the xml-sitemaps.com site and get all 31 of my pages.

Looking through the forum I see that maybe the problem is that I have named my pages with capital letters (a habit I developed over the years using Visual Basic programing).

Short of changing the names of all my pages to contain only lower case, is there another way to have BV sitemap generator find my pages?

Also, have I handicapped myself by using upper case in my page names in other ways? My web site seems to work fine using the names as I presently have them.

Thanks

After doing some more looking around I figured the problem with the BV Sitemap generator was that I used capital letters in my page names. So I went back and changed all my page names from "SafariHome.html" to "safari-home.html" etc. I also changed all the internal links to the new page names.

Now the BV Sitemap generator finds all my pages, and I have submitted it to Google, BUT my site is all screwed up with Google. Google still has links to my old pages and I get the 404 error. Google hasn't found my new pages.

Is there anything I can do other than wait and see if Google finds my new pages and replaces the old page links with the new ones?

Thanks

Yes.. you can redirect using htaccess to the new pages or you can make a custom 404 to also redirect them. Alternately you can put the old pages back up with a redirect in the meta tags.

Hi Websleever,

There is a nice Thread from VodaHost that explains everything about the sitemaps function in BV10.

You can find these procedures here You may also send your sitemap to Google

Good luck :)

I went to Google Webmaster Tools and found a place where I could remove "dead" or no longer used pages. I listed all my old page names on this page and submitted it. I then resubmitted a new sitemap with the correct names.

I am hoping this will clean up my Google searches.

Thanks

I am not sure how to use htaccess. Would that be a better option for me? If so, how would I go about doing it?

Thanks Again!
