Dear Beth..Having problems

Hi Beth,
I have tries everything to get my new site at least to show upi in any search engine.

Here is what it says....

Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Dec 7, 2008: We've detected that your verification file returns a status of 404 (Not found) in the header.

Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong without to much trouble on your part?

Sharon, can you give me the site, so I can look at the view source?

Also, I'm thinking this is your Google sitemap? That not verifying won't mean they haven't found your site.

I'm going to be in and out today - will look here to see if you've posted, and I'm sure Karen will be on also. She might catch it before me :)

First off - your Google analytics code is showing at the top of the page - that might be the whole problem - you need to go back and make sure you aren't missing a piece of the code - as it's not going where it belongs.

One more comment - your pages have to state specifically where you are - as right now it looks like you can put in jobs to and from anywhere in the world. Make yourself THE place for YOUR community!

Your google verify meta tag goes BETWEEN the head tags. they will give you the code...dont put it in an html box.. it needs to go in the header. Alternately you can open notepad. SAVE AS google9billion numbers . txt (they give you the name) Then ftp it to the site folder.

Thanks a google9billion's..may I say "The Market Place For Our Community" do you think that will work? As I would like to add other states later.

I highly recommend uploading the 9billion file to your server and not putting it into your code as Google tend to lose their way to these after a while. Uploading the file is mush more longer lasting!

P.S Deja vue on the location advice huh?

yes, are you laoding it into notepad?

Just put it direct into your public?html or if addon domain put in public_html/addonfoldername

Ok,......

From BV go > Tools > FTP Manager

Open using same log-in as main account

You will see two windows, one on left and one on right

The one on your left is your PC, the one on the right is your server

Your right window should be open in your public_html folder. So search for your addon folder and double click it so that this is now open.

On the left hand window now search for the saved Google verification file and drag it over to the right.

Tell you what, here is an easier way.

Open BV, create a blank white page and call it google0cd0a5b075d1bb4e but do not put the .html on the end as publishing will do that automatically.

Save the page and publish it to your addon folder

Geez, I am gone for the day- and it looks like you are being found.

OK - about where this is for - you can add areas as much as you like in the future - but for now, you need this site to concentrate on exactly the area that you are doing - kind of like if you look at craig's list - each one is for each different city. If you add areas, then you'll need a separate site/page, etc for that area. Unless I'm seeing something wrong or not understanding.

Sorry to be sidetracking you from what you asked me - but it looks like you got that figured. Right now, as they index, I have no clue what search phrases that might find you for - so the indexing won't do any good.
