Default I have published, but Google evades me

I have published my website it tells me I am all okay.
Whilst I can access my website via the [?] address bar [the one at the top of the screen] I cannot access it from the Google search engine. Google tells me "are you looking for...?] but cannot find frogswrite.com

Do I have to register with google and other search engines?

Help! The frustration of it all, not to mention first time trauma.

You need to search SEO's, there are many things that go into being found by search engines.......metatags......optimization........an d TIME. You cannot publish one day and expect to be found by them the next it doesn't work that way. Before I submitted to them I would make sure your site is up to par.

Did you buy the domain name and point the domain to the vodahost server? Its not coming up.. not only just searches but it wont come up at all. This suggests to me you dont have the domain pointed to the server.

Thanks for the quick reply, but you are still talking jargon - what are the SEOs? Why does the Getting Published Tutorial give a check list before we go ahead to publish? Don't forget there must be many first timers and the tutorial implies that once published it's all okay.
I published a week ago, and have struggled to get an explanation as to why I'm in this spot. If you are a senior officer you might have a thought for those enlisted men who only want to get a simple website up and running - then we can go back to our normal lives!

Thank you
Gerry

AHEMMMM>.. you will wipe that silly smirk off your face when you salute me...

Did you purchase a DOMAIN NAME? Did you change the path to publish to public_html/

Because as far as i can see there is NO SITE where it should be.. this indicates NO DOMAIN or published to the WRONG folder.. if you published it to the home / root it wont show up. It must be in the public_html

At EASE private

Are you really a general - SAAR

I purchased my domain name from a separate provider and on 3/11 [or you may understand 11/3 - 3rd nov I asked him to change to
ns3.vodahost.com
ns4.vhodahost.com
He confirmed, and also on 3rd nov I received an email
from VodaHost Domain Names reference BHD 885145
"your site is now active and ready for you to publish pages to it.
Amie.

I presumed that this meant it was incorporated into the Blue Voda system.
What more can a mere Private think - surely the other ranks are not paid to think?

Where to now?

Karen, it's frogwrite.com

Gerry, the paragraph below shows the terms on your page that the SEs (search engines like Google) look at when indexing your site. SEO is "Search Engine Optimization," what you want to learn about.

Karen, is it Bethers who has the free pdf file that explains things clearly?

<title>Home Page</title>
<meta name="AUTHOR" content="Gerry">
<meta name="KEYWORDS" content="books,writing,publishers,agents,suspense novels, thrillers,writing tios,fiction,help,advice,">
<meta name="DESCRIPTION" content="This is my writing website to showpage my novels, to ask for comments and tell you of future and current projects">

Thanks for your comments, but you make me feel very old!
I still do not understand what I have to do to get google etc working for me. I can access the website from the address bar or whatever the top bar on my screen is called, which presumes my site is somewhere in the big blue, but do I have to bribe someone at google yahoo etc to find me?

I know you're trying to be helpful, but not are you in a different continent but also a different world, sorry to be so negative.

I think I'll go back to read my cornflakes packet!

DO NOT PANIC! :)

The good news is you can mess up all you like and nothing gets broken.

Karen was looking for "frogswrite," I corrected that to frogwrite. Not a bad job on the site, I might add.

The reason you can find your site on the top bar is because that's the "hard" address of your site, if that makes sense. That bar gives a "pass-fail" kind of answer--it either finds your site or it doesn't. That's why Karen couldn't find it, she had the wrong name. I found it because I took a lucky guess.

The bar in the middle of the screen doesn't go straight to that address. Instead it searches for key words and things. Google and other "search engines" have software that crawl around all the websites on the planet, making note of those words and things. It takes time, sometimes more than the week you've been around.

The reason I joined in this discussion is because my first post here was the very same question. It took four or five days for my site to show up on the search bar. I remember the feeling of relief when it did.

Believe it or not, you'll begin to enjoy learning about SEO and all that nonsense. You're an author, I'm an author--we like to learn stuff. You'll find a sense of accomplishment when you start to "get" some of the many things to learn.

If it's any comfort, I'm nearly sixty and I started my first site last March.

Tom

Tom and Karen thanks for patience and explanations.

Tom you make sense, even if you are eleven years younger than me!
[re my remark about being born too soon for all this].

I gather from your remarks that it is now a waiting game, but can I do anything to speed it up?

May I suggest that in the Tutorial on publishing more detailis given. I received the impression that once the publishing was okayed then all was sweet - you really should warn us about this.

Whilst I [hopefully] have the ear [or eye] of the jargon free can I ask one further question.
On my page "What do you think?" I have several glass buttons with chapters of my book. They are all pdf files, all identical except for the their titles, BUT the first one "Prologue" simply does not work, the others are fine. How can that be?
Sorry one further question to change a page, do I merely make the amendments and publish the page which then replaces the original? That seems to be the simplest, but then we are talking websites aren't we.

It's a warm cloudy day here in SI New Zealand, and getting warmer.

Thanks
Gerry always a Private!

Your links are wrong, I found that the first three buttons do not work. You have them linked to a file in your computer instead of to your site
(c:/User/gerry/Documents/BlueVoda/prologue.pdf) the others are the same way, here is what it should be
http://frogwrite.com/prologue.pdf
Do the same format for the others

Gerry

Yes.. just publish the page again..

You have not fixed the links to your buttons. They are all linked to your hard drive and not the site. you have to upload the pdf and then change the links to

www.frogwrite.com/prologue.pdf

what you have is files:\\c:\gerry\documents\whatever.pdf

If you want found faster do the SEO

Karen

Your links appear to be working now.......well done, but you may want to consider opening All your pages in the same window.

I just want to get the website up and running so that if someone googles frogwrite.com they get my website.
Have been told [although if the teller is an officer should it not be ordered?] to "do" the SEO.
I know it is Search Engine Optimisation, but where do I find it? I've searched the Control Panel, I don't see a tutorial entitled SEO, so where is the dang thing.
I changed my glass buttons as suggested and published, they work in Preview mode but there seems no evidence when I access through Yahoo - which is the only search engine that likes me - does it take time from changing a page to seeing the changes.
Is it true that after the last couple of days you are removing your NZ advertising and doubling the fees for Kiwi's or just a rumour.
The sun maybe approaching your yardarm, but it's only just half way here, and I must tear myself away from Blue Voda for a few hours.
Thanks for comments anyway.
