I just got listed on page one in google! Yes!

This morning my website at www.NativeStar.org ranked #10 for the search term "credit card guide". Credit card guide is a difficult term for credit card sites to get listed on.

I say this not to boast, but to thank Vasili, Karen Mac, Bethers and others for all their great advice.

To everyone trying to get their pages ranked and improve their websites, take advantage of these forums. The expert advice is an invaluable resource. And if you are lucky, you might even get a few valuable Mac-smacks (you'll find out!).

Another site that I have found very useful is LinkReferral at http://www.linkreferral.com/adwel.pl?oldrefid=186802. It is free to join. If you use their review forums, you will get a lot of good advice from fellow webmasters, as well as free traffic.

Congrats on your ranking. It is possible to out do your competitors even in a saturated market with good SEO techniques.

Congratulations on the Google ranking! It also interests me because yesterday on another (non-VH) forum a member said he doesn't like to use HTML generators to create his web pages because he thinks they don't index well in Google and other search engines.

I've used BlueVoda, an HTML generator, to create all my sites, so I was concerned to see him say that. I've asked him to explain the facts/reasons behind it, but haven't heard back yet.

Anyone (moderators especially) care to comment on this?

Lots of people say lots of things. What he is talking about is W3 Compliance coding and if you use any generator at all it makes some mistakes most likely, or the user misapplies some element.. like tables which causes an error. IE in 99.9% of cases will still render the webpage correctly or as intended. Ive never seen anything WRITTEN in google that this harms your website as far as showing your site in the search results.

The only place i can see this is a REAL issue is in javascripted menus because the search engines cannot read these...so having good links to your inner pages will resolve this and the use of a site map.

Thanks, Karen. I might try to ask him if he was referring to W3 compliance. One thing I do know is that he scores well above average on the 'controlfreak-o-meter'.

Related question, if you don't mind: When we put a new domain onto a subdomain of our VH-account root domain, does that new site have a more difficult time ranking in the SE's as a result? Thank you.

Not in my experience. But it could in some instances.. for instance id be careful with the content and KINDS of sites in those other domains... make sure that they are individual sites and share no content, products etc. Really watch for similar domains, or making sites merely for the purpose of providing links to another site you own
