Thread: deleting the background from an image

I'm very new at this so if 98% of the audience knows the answer I'll know I've come to the right place. I would like to insert an image into my banner, but don't know how to remove the white background without using Paint, with which I'm not very successful.

If you would like to take the white off you will need some kind of photo editing software or graphic programs like Fireworks or CS2 series etc.

Ok Jeremy...I think you need to do us 'dummies' all a tutorial and teach...lol... I 'm learning by trial and error...more trials and erros than any one has a right to make...lol

Beeeeeeeeezzz has suggested that I show you guys how, well you need the right program's to do soo which I will be working on solving soon, as well as making tutorials on fireworks 8 soon!

Jeremy, I don't have Fireworks. I want to put the image on a marquee banner that I created because the header I wanted to use isn't deep enough for the image. The marquee background color I'm using is maroon. But if this is becoming too big a deal, too much effort, I'm happy to have the image appear on the white background it came on.

Jeremy, you can't imagine the improvement in the header with the insertion of the maroon-background image you provided. How'd you do that?
