Thread: MY Images

Hello I'm back again. Would anyone mind looking at my home page again http://www.dcofficeproducts.co.uk because there are a few images on it.

I've got a good internet connection but when you load my site the images ok it loads fairly quick (you can see the images populating the page in some kind of sequence)

When I compare it similar sites with similar content, their page loads in it's entirety.

None of my images has been stretched or made smaller, but can I ask you.

1. When you visit my page, does it load satisfactorily.
2. Are my images to big.
3. If I removed the roll overs would that speed things up.

And feedback and advice would be great.

Hi Darren,
I went to your site and the page loaded very well, I am using FF with a dial up connection and everything loaded in less than a minute, definitely not too long to put me off anyway.
Your images look great and the rollovers dont seem to slow down anything.
I presume you are talking about the rollovers on the Nav Buttons.

Hi, loading fine here as well. The only thing that may slow the page down a tiny bit is there is a <META HTTP-EQUIV="pragma" CONTENT="nocache"> on most pages so everything is being downloaded as new when a page is opened.

I have just looked at the source code on various pages. Just so you know http://www.dcofficeservices.co.uk was built on VH and I've linked it to an ecommerce site (Not VH) so it all looks the same.

That code you gave me actually relates to the non VH bit and I must admit the pages run OK on that bit of the site.

I looked at the source code for all the pages I built on VH (all the ones with dcofficeproducts on it, in the browser) but the word cache or no cache does'nt appear. Should the word cache appear somewhere because it does seem that the pages do not reload from memory?

Saying that I don't think its a big issue because the page does load fairly quickly, but it's when you see other sites loading 'really' quickly, you do wonder 'Why don't mine load that quick?'

The code Chris refers to does appear in some pages, see "T&C's", it would have been added by you? I know I added it it to all my pages, between the head tags in page HTML, check there.

Hello Mike I don't know if you seen my posting further up. All the Non BV pages (including T&C's) actually load OK. These all have the nocache code.

It's the pages I built using BV, which struggle a little bit, like home (+ Right Hand Picture Links), contact us, news pages, catalogue (+ save &#163;&#163;&#163;'s etc & going green & 2008 diaries) so far....

Not all these pages take long to load, just the ones with more images like the home page. (but I do intend to put more images and content on all the pages)

I am assuming if on these pages, if it doesn't say nocache in the html code, it should automatically cache anyway? perhaps?

Hi Darren,

The office equipment and furniture images on the right are slow to load as
you said.

I cant figure out why as your images are between 7-10 kb in
size [254x169] which is relatively small.

Maybe somebody else in this forum can help resolve your problem.
