    Red face names for pictures

My new website, www.kneemanbarkus.com contains 10 pictures that are a part of the page title. They show up on all of the pages just below the name of the company. They were loaded from various folders on two pcs and are of various sizes. Some of them have been resized, repixeled and everything else I can think of to make them appear the same height and to also make them load faster.

While viewing them in the link validator, I find that some have links and some don't. Should each picture have a name and be linked to the web page or does that matter? In reading other threads, there is mention if the search engine impacts from pictures.

The web pages look like I want them and I want to avoid major surgery although there is much work remaining to make them presentable. I need suggestions as to how to present these pics to their best advantage. Note, I like the "touching" so do not believe that VH gallery is the answer.

This is a lot of verbage for what may be a simple question. Please helpif you understand my predicament.

    Thanks

I think you mean alt tags. When you run the mouse over and have text appear, which is good for the search engines.

If this is what you mean then just right click on the image and there is a box saying alternate text...Fill this in with something relevant to your pic, press o.k and publish.

If you want to link any of your pics, then again right click and go to the link tab and add the url you want to link the pic to.

    Hope that helps

That's part of it and I think they should all have unique names, not just "puppy pic", correct? Also, do they need to be linked to anything? Some seem to be and some don't depending on the page you're viewing. Does that affect loading speed?
    Thanks,

The choice to link them to something is up to you, looking at the site I would not, there is no reason to. Your pics load slowas they are too big, you need to use a pix resizer to reduce the size and they will load far quicker....You can download the pix resizer here in bluevoda

Also you have linked your pics to this address http://kneemanbarkusbakery/home.html

There is no such url address and there is no need to link them anyway in this case. So you need to go back and take this link out.

Also this is your choice but music is a big no, no, for a lot of people when entering a site. It made me want to click straight off, that is your choice though, I just don't want you losing people because of it.

Red face Re: names for pictures

    Paul:
Thanks for the continuing review. We've used the pix resizer but still remain somewhat confused by the different measurements of a photo, whether it is the physical size or the pixel sizing but I suppose that is a different issue. I've not published the revisions but have changed the names of the pictures and handled them individually as pic1, pic2, etc.

What I really don't understand is the linking issue and why they need to be or not. The same pics should be on nearly all of the pages. Is there a tutorial about this somewhere? Also, you are correct that the url you referenced no longer exists as we were successful in getting the shorter name url after the first publishing so that is also being corrected.

Thanks for you patience and help.

Hi, I checked one of your pics and it was 600 x 400 pixels (you will see this when you load it into pix-resizer), this is too big and is slowing down loading time. I did one for you to get it to the size you want, just replace the 600 for 100 and that is the size you want. Reducing pixels, reduces the size of the pic, its the same thing.

The naming of the pics....You would be better naming them the different type of pups you have i.e German Shepard puppys for example. You also need to title your pages. Here you want a bit more detail, Example: My site is about anxiety and the title reads

Natural Anxiety Cure | Panic Treatment | Self Help With Anxiety Attacks

Name each page different to what is relevant to that page. Also place a description, so my description for the home page is

Help and Advice in Recovering from Panic and Anxiety Attacks by ex-sufferer Paul David. You’ll find valuable information including symptoms and causes of anxiety and panic.

You need something for google to pick up on. Certainly put where you are based.

I think you are over confusing yourself with the linking of the pics. You don't need to link any pics to anything. None of my pics are linked. You only need to do this if you want the pic to take them to another page, this is more for logos or adverts etc...I would forget the linking of the pics issue, its not relevant to what you need. The pics are there to show what you have, not to take them to another page.

    Hope that helps

    Paul:

Spent the day following your comments and things are improving dramatically. I reduced the pics in pixs resizer although they were dofferent sizes to begin with and the pages load much faster. If you go back to the site, you'll find a lot of changes in the headers and colors. There is a lot of tweaking yet to be done and then some subjective changes to cover before we start adding important stuff, like more pictures and paypal.

I have one unrelated question. Do you have to go to cpanel and delete the published files everytime you make changes and then resave and republish? It seems the changes to the pages don't get published unless you take the old ones out of cpanel. Am I missing something here?

Thank you for all of the constructive help you have given. You can tell my novice status and there will no doubt be additional (many, many) questions.

You don't have to go into control panel no, when you publish it just overides the old one, no need to delete anything. Just make sure you save each page before you re-publish.

The alt tags seem to have dissapeared all together now, is this on the list?

Anyway loads far quicker now, so well done on that. Don't be bothered about being a newbie, wish I had a $ for every question I had asked in my time.
