Firstly it is not recommended to latch onto other posts with your own questions as it's highly likely your post will not be seen by as many people as if it were posted at top level.

As I have seen it though i will answer.

Yes you can open a word document as long as it has been uploaded to your server along with your vodahost website just crate a link using the following code.

HTML Code:
<a href="yoursite.com">what ever you want to type here</a>
replace yoursite.com with your link to the document on your server.
replace whatever you want to type here with what ever you want the link to say.

With regards tutorials this site will teach you the basics of HTML coding. I've used this a lot and it's really simple to understand too.

Question Re: Creating Hyperlinks

Okay, I've got a question. :) How do I use the "navigation" bar? For example, say I have a title on the navigation bar that says "Information." I would like it linked to a file I created in Microsoft Word. How do I do that?

Okay, so I open up the navigation bar properties and click on edit. Here as follows are the option box titles: What do I place in each of them to link files?

1. Name:
2. Alternate text
3. Link Type
4. URL
5. Target

I don't know if there is a tutorial for the Navigation bar, but it sure would be great if you did. :)

Thanks.

Still green at this,

Dorene... (grin)

Okay, so I open up the navigation bar properties and click on edit. Here as follows are the option box titles: What do I place in each of them to link files?

1. Name: Information (what should appear as button text)
2. Alternate text Whatever you want the mouseover text to be, f.e. "Information about our products"
3. Link Type HTTP
4. URL http://www.yourdomain.com/wordfilename.doc
5. Target I usually prefer to open documents in new window, so it should be Blank, but you can also open it in the same window, in which case you can leave it blank.

I don't know if there is a tutorial for the Navigation bar, but it sure would be great if you did. :)

These are two tutorials about menubars and navigation bars:

Fixed Menu Bars - creating and editing - MUST WATCHSliding Menu Bars (Drop Down) - creating and editing

Thanks.

Still green at this,

Dorene... (grin)
Hope this helps

Question Re: Creating Hyperlinks

Do I have to "publish" my page to see my links in action? I tried to check the validity of the links I created in the "preview" section, but I was taken to a bovine feces page instead. Is this becuase I have not "published" the page and so no browser caqn find it? If this is the case, is there a way to test teh page and it's links inside of blue voda before publishing it? thank for any responses...... Rod

Links between your BV created pages will ONLY work after publishing, because they reffer to absolute (and as such, existing) URLS. If the pages have not been published, they simply do not exist so you cannot link to them.

ALL of your problems are due to wrong typing. the about us page, i.e., is in http://www.americansteelsupply.com/about us.html .
Your metal buildings is in http://www.americansteelsupply.com/metal buildings.html instead of http://www.americansteelsupply.com/building.html that you have typed.

Check your typing. What you type in your menu or nav bar UR field MUST be excactly the same as your pages names.

It should be easier to setup links. I DO NOT yet have a web site on the internet yet your program seems to require that I do have one even before I create one. I have created a page.html with background in it. Then I created my home page named ejaxnaz.index. Then I try to create a link to the page.html file. When I preview it I get nothing. Great program but if I cannot create a simple link it is worthless to me.

Hi, i'm looking for a way to work with pictures similar to lightbox or photo gallery, but i need to be able to put text under the pics at least five lines of text and the text must show under the pic when looking at the site - basically the description of the pic will be under the pic. than i also need to be able to hyperlink the pick to another page - so if you click on the pic it will take you to another page.

Any help will be appreciated.

Louis

I can see perfectly your glasses page in http://www.buyheaven.co.uk/buyheaven_glasses.html

And the link from your page works ok.

I understand how to make links, I just don't understand how I link 2 pages that I've already created (but not published online) together.

When I'm assigning URLs to my pages, do I just make up whatever name I like? When does it have to end in .html? Or begin with www?

What is the difference between the different link types, like http or gopher?

Thanks :)

A page name is simply "products" or "about_us" or "contact_us" when you save them in BV.

When published, they become "products.html" / "about_us.html" / contact_us.html" automatically.

To be accessed on the internet, you need to type in your browser address bar: " http://yourdomain.com/products.html " .

In your menus, to be able to properly link your pages, type the FULL url as above.

It will also work with simply "products.html" because the browser adds the ne cessary prefix, but as a good rule type the entire address.
