I find the images too tiny to appreciate.

If you want people to click images to enlarge - you'd be better off putting text on the page which says that. And make the text that you want to be clickable - keyword rich text of what the pictures are.

To do as you say - they'd have to be smart enough to mouse over the picture to get the text. If they know to mouse over - they'll recognize that it's clickable. But - putting non-clickable text on the page - saying something like - "Please click on these images to see them larger and in greater detail." would be better for the people viewing the page.

I agree with Bethers. An example of this is on a website I am currently working on. Take a look at http://www.skyhighphotographs.co.uk/

I prefer the use of the gallery, and then enabling your image to open in a pop up window which only opens the size of the photo size you use as opposed to an image opening in the top left corner of a full sized page ...

You can see the use of the gallery for small images that open in their own pop up window on this page of a site I did ...

So many choices eh! I find most people attempt to click pictures if they are small to see if there is an enlargement ...

Have to agree with Beth in preferences to how it may work. But the only thing with BV’s pop up's, is that it is not cross browser compatible. Well at least I can’t get it to work with some browsers as a proper pop up, IE: 200x200. I just get a new page opening with the image in the top left corner in some browsers. (Really unprofessional looking) But with this script you can make it work with clicks/mouse-over & so on with no pop up at all, as it works on the same page. I have tried it in quite a few browsers without problem.
Only down side is you have to do some work with this one. lol

The use of the gallery and using it individually for each image on your page, as I have done, is totally compatible with internet explorer and firefox browsers. The size of the pop up is dependent on the image that you use and resize firstly ... The image pops up in a window the size of your image in all cases ... not sitting there in the left corner as a full page and small image on it ... There is a few settings within the properties that must be set up to have this work as you want it ... easy though

this works for me Chris in both browsers as I've said ...

Forgot to mention, that another nice thing about using the gallery as opposed to a script is that your enlargements can be all different sizes, useful if all your images cannot be resized the same, takes away any possibility of your images distorting if the same size is used, it's not possible for all images to be one size.

And like Bethers says, "If they know to mouse over - they'll recognize that it's clickable. But - putting non-clickable text on the page - saying something like - "Please click on these images to see them larger and in greater detail." would be better for the people viewing the page."

You are quite right Lady eye, sometimes it’s just not that easy to have all images the same size. I uploaded a test block of images & it was my browser that was set wrong. For the pop ups using gallery. One small thing I noticed? In opera I get 2 windows open & then one closes & all is OK. Oh well, go with the majority.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have pop ups with no frame. Just an X like the light box gallery.

It would be nice to have the mouse over text because I have used images of products (company image) and would like it that when you moved the mouse over the image it displayed the product or company that is behind the thumbnail.

See example at www.exportbc.com (click on small red maple leaf in header to access site) and then click on "Products" to see why I need a mouse-over text.

Hi Danny, if you choose the gallery method and choose pop up window, the mouse over text will appear - you just need to name the photo what you might want it to say ... (hopefully not too long for the name of an image,) but you can do this ... mouse over text does appear in this feature. You can get these images looking and appearing like the lightbox feature with just a little work on your own and you would have mouse over text ...

Question Re: how to mouse over text

    Hi folks,

Much is said about the mouse over effect of images and text.

Chris link is about the best I can see to describe the desired effect I would like to see

    http://www.collectors-info.com/testing/k1.html

This is not my thread but those in the know seem to all come here to discuss this matter specifically.

I need to know how to create the effect of a different lightbox appearing when I plae my mouse over another image?

If this is not the correct place please post me in my thread.

Hi Rob, is it a light box you want similar to BV’s one?. Or just a way to show images. I am working on this one at the moment. Its only a test, & only the top two left hand images are working fully. But its an easy one to use & is quite flexible. As I said the images are not fully optimized yet so it maybe a little slow. Just got to have a word with Naval on the cart side of things.
    http://www.collectors-info.com/testing/cssgal2.html

PS, would be interesting to know if it loaded ok for you, IE: fast or slow.

    Hi Chris,

The link you present loads very well - and the mouseover effect also is quick - I use IE 6.

The effect I am looking for is the following:

I have a table on the left hand side of the screen where I have placed "text" images. On moving the mouse over these images I would like the lightbox to change showing all the pics in the specific lightbox.

    I hope this is possible.

Can one name the lighbox as one name sand image and therefor have several lighboxes but with differing names?

    Thanks for you intrest

This might be what your after. All that has to be done is change the onclick to onmouseover.

    Hi Chris,

    Yes this is correct.

Please advise as to how to change to the "mouse over" effect.

Secondly - I will have a picture in the middle of the page which will always remain when "mouse out"

In choosing this method - will it be possible to do it using a lightbox instead of a single image? i.e. when mouse over the image /
lightbox appears and on moving to the next image the next lightbox will appear / fadeout

For that one you will need a specialist, or going to a site where it has been made.

Your previous link was closer to what I am looking for.

Except that instead of clicking the image - I would like the mouse over option.

Hi, try the link again, http://www.collectors-info.com/testi...same_page.html the top 3 images are now mouse over. If you drop me your email address at the http://www.collectors-info.com/contact_us.php page, i will send you the BV file as an attachment. You can have a play.

    Hi Chris,

I am definitely not the bightest candle in the box.

If I have multiple lightboxes that need to change like your do - I obviously have to load them as your images.

I however do not know where to change the name of the lightbox.

    I appreciate your help

Hi, not sure what you mean by where to change the name. (Which name is this?)

On the image side of things you will have 2 images. The thumbnail & the main image.
If we take the 1st image on my page the thumbnail is located in the html box as bald-“eagle-tn.jpg” this needs to be replaced by your one & hight="90" width="120" changed to your t/nail size if needed.

Then your main pop up image go’s in the head of the page under
    bald-eagle.jpg" width="640" height="480" border="0" alt="Bald eagle">'
Once again adjust the sizes if needed.

    Hi Chris,

I manage to follow what you have in your page that I have received and am building up my new page aroound that - thank you.

Your page has single images named bald eagle, etc, etc. which appear on mouse over and change when moving the mouse to the next position.

    This is perfect for me.

However I have created a lightbox with mulitple images - photographs of members of a team.

The effect then would be as I move my mouse the various lightboxes will appear as I move from team to team.

Hence the nameing of the lightbox would be important as i can then replace its name with the current image name.

    I hope this makes sense

Sorry I don’t understand what you are saying. Are you using a BV light box? As this is not compatible with BV s version. The reason I have been using different versions (like this one) is so I don’t have to use the BV version as it’s very slow loading & distorts the thumbnail images.
If you want to use the BV light box, then a completely different method is needed.

    Hi Chris,

I do use the BV version of "lightbox" to group the pics as seen in the file sent.

I dont know of another way other tham to perhaps build up a table to create the same effect. This might then be a way to give the table a specific name (team name) and then use your method of mouse over.

Considering the completly different method - please could you advise?

The only other way is the link at the bottom of this page (Light box BV) But its not mouse over, as it would drive visitors mad. The instructions are at the link right at the bottom of the page.

    Thanks for the info.

It is such a pity as I think it would have been perfect for my desired application.

I surpose its back to the drawing board and perhaps thinking "out the box" might help.

    Any other ideas might help

Something will come up. But wouldn't go for any mouse overs style if you are using the light box. it will take to long to load. Any mouse over should really be for a single image that has pre-loaded to enable fast pop ups.

    Good luck.

    Hi Chris,

In your mouse over page that you sent me.

Is there a way in which the picture that pops up on mouse over can be postioned rather than it show up as center screen?

If it is possible how do I go about doing that?
