Thread: 404 error message--linking problems

Would someone mind to do a view, source, on this page of my web site and tell me why some of the links aren't working?

I have placed links on the first two sections of portraits. Only two of them work. I have more than double checked my work. The 2 pages that I want the images to link to are published but if I type those pages into the address bar manually I can only view one of them.

In the first section of portraits the center one does not work. It should link to

Hunter's page is published but even when I type it into the address bar I get a "page not found" message. I brought the center image to the front, published, thinking that might be the problem and it still did not work.

In the second set of images each one of them should link to the same page, http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits....ler_family.php. If I type this URL into the address bar the page comes up. But none of the links in the second section work. The page is not complete but I don't want to continue until I find out what I am doing wrong.

I have been working on this for 2 days. I hope some one can see what I don't.

(I have previewed this post and don't know why the entire urls are not showing up. Hopefully that won't matter in making a diagnosis)

First let me say, your website is absolutely beautiful ... stunning to say the very least ....

I can see some problems ...

I believe the first issue is that you are missing the word hunter

and I believe the next set there is a y in the portraiture word ...

Check your links for errors, you are doing things right - just a few typos here and there .....

Again, your site is wonderful!!

I agree with LE, stunning..........just check your spelling....those little spaces etc can really trip you up......

I agree. It's easy to miss them and sometimes just takes someone else to look to fine them. Looking good otherwise though.

Wow, coming from you, I am going to take that as quite a compliment. The artist is my daughter. She said that the last site I did for her made it sound as if her mother wrote it. I tried to keep the mother in me out of this one. After I get some wrinkles ironed out I will ask for a review.

I found the "y" problem but for the life of me cannot find the "hunter" problem. I am puzzled by the code I see when doing View, Source. I am used to creating a web site with a template (store builder) and things there were in a different order. I expect to see the header, keyword info, nav bar, body and then the footer. This is all mixed up. Have I done something wrong? I don't even know where to look for the problem.

I must get this solved as I have a big store with a shopping cart to build next. I'll never get it done if I can't figure out these basics. Someone is going to have to stick my nose right into the mistake I have made.

I FOUND THE MISTAKE!!!!!
I had published the page that the link was supposed to go to in html and not php. When I changed that it worked perfectly. Until about a month ago, I had never heard of php. Still don't know much but that was the error.

Just want to mention too, that I see just a bit of jumping around on a few pages, you will notice what I mean ... perhaps a couple pages are not quite lined up width wise with all the rest, would be nice to pull those all in sync ... your colors are so soft together ... just wondering too if you will be changing the resource page to look more like your others ... I would if I were you ...

And your daughter is a wonderful artist, and I love what you wrote next to the portrait she painted of you, nice touch ... and a beautiful portrait too ..

Continue to tweak you have a wonderful site!! I wish you both much success as I am sure you have already enjoyed.

(I couldn't make up my mind what width to use so I used lots!) 2 people who have viewed the site tell me that the words and images overlap in places. Would the incorrect page size cause that? Obviously, I can't see the overlapping or I would have fixed it.

Oh my, you saw the Resource Page. In fairness to my few link partners, I left it there but I know it is BAD. I simply don't know how to edit Zeus, my linking program. It will get done soon, I hope.....

I believe you should set your page widths to the '800 width, your backgrounds are beautiful and this width allows all viewers to view without scrolling sideways ...

I believe what is happening though, is you are using Vivaldi type font, and if the person viewing your page does not have that font installed on their computer, it will revert to their own default font, and with vivaldi you need to increase the font size up to get it the right size, so when someone doesn't have it, and it defaults to their own font, the size is that much larger ... unfortunately, you have to use web safe fonts. I have that font, so it appeared for me ...

It's a shame, it's one of my favorite fonts, it didn't even occur to me when I was viewing your site ...

I went through your site and admired the portraits and I read what was along side of yours as well as what you had told us in this post ... :)

Can you not make a page of links and copy them onto a page matching your site??

My shame got the best of me---I manually created my little Resource Page till I get it fixed! Now I have to tell my link partners where to find their link.

Oh darn, I LOVE vivaldi! It's even used in the header. I don't think there is a safe font that is similar.
