    Default Hyperlinking Downloads

    website tempdent.net.
    Hi all,
decided to add a few downloadable documents made in Wordpad to my site.....(file name "ec")
Followed the directions in the tutorial thread.....
Created a text......then hyperlinked it to my document that was uploaded to my public_html folder.
    Hyperlinked as http:www.tempdent.net/ec.zip

When I test out the download and click on the link in my site....I'm getting......
    The webpage cannot be found.

any suggestions on what I could have done wrong?

    Thanx.
    Jim

Your files you uploaded, and I assume you mean via ftp, you have the directory of upload correct, but your document should be converted into a pdf, you can do so free if you like, a free converter to download can be found at www.primopdf.com if you are in need, and then the pdf file you create, you upload via ftp to your public_html directory, and link to it as, http://www.nameofyourdomain.com/nameofpdf.pdf - not fogetting that the name of the pdf needs to be identical to your link - small letters - no spaces ..

This should work for you, if this is what you are wanting to do ...

    Ladyeye,
Thank you so much for your quick reply and help.....
So if I get you right.....any document I wish to add as a download to my site must be/or converted to a pdf file?
I used a Rich Text Document file type in wordpad.
I will try that link you gave me......
is there any other type file that can be used?
    Thanks again.

I didn't zip it together....I thought when I downloaded it that the BV program made it a zip file?

Not sure how to save it as a zip file on my computer......
It's just a Wordpad document that I created and name "ec"....(and now converted to a pdf file as Ladyeye recommended). I uploaded it (in CP file manager)as a pdf file in my public_html file. Still not working.....

where should I go from here?
I need a lesson in zip files I suppose?

Well.. thats why the link wont work. If you dont zip it.. its not a zip file.. so file not found. So its still a word.doc.

what did you name the pdf? and is is this domain the main domain? or an addon domain?

OK, Thought I'd bring up my old thread since my problems are related......

Downloaded "Winzip"....used trial version....didn't buy it.
Worked great creating zip files.....mastered the hyperlinking thing on my website for downloads.

    2 problems I'm having.....

    1.
When a visitor comes to my website and trys to download a document...after the open or save window......they are getting the "Winzip" pop up. Asking then to "use the trial version" or "buy now".
They can use the trial version to download/view the document......but it makes my website/business look unprofessional.

Is there a way to remedy this? Must I Buy the program?
(If I do...will this pop up thing continue?)
Is there another program....or way I can have downloads that just open on my customers computer without the advertisements.?

    2.
Once Documents are downloaded they look fine but are printing, out of sink...meaning that some of the type is out of line with where it should be.
I created the documents in "Wordpad"

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanx
