Thread: Creating anchor text

Hi,

I am trying to create anchor text for the links on my website http://www.themagicfactory.nl/test.html. I have used the below tutorial, but it isn't working.

The link isn't showing the anchor text, nor is it properly directing and bookmarking. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Select anchor text, then select the green Link Icon in the top menu bar

Anchor text is usually the text that gives the user relevant description about the link you are applying .. so you will type the text that you want linked and then link it to that page or area on your website ...

Thanks David and LadyEye, but I still don't get it .
In the text there's a word (let's say 'e-books')
that word should link to (let's say 'www.mydomain.com/ebooks.html)
with the anchor text (let's say 'click here for free e-books).

If I link it to the page, insert a bookmark (click here for free ebooks), then nothing is happening. (???)

An anchor text is text that gives you some information about a link. So if you have a link called 'ebooks', and the website viewer is mousing over it, the anchor text will appear 'click here for free ebooks'. Anchor text is important for se and your page ranking.

Anchor text: is a text & informative description of the page or paragraph it is going/linked to.
So the anchor text in this link to my jokes area of the site is Joke page.

Yes, as I stated above, but in lay terms here now, it's the text that might be used by a searcher looking for info you might offer ..

This is anchor text ...

As an example ... I've used website building tips as an anchor to my page ...

Hi. Just wondering, is there a limit to how many anchors you have in your webpage? I have just added anchors to mine after reading this as i didnt have any!! As i also have a forum for the website, ive Anchored the words forum in "we also have a friendly forum" and have linked the forum to other words, such as "we have a large technical database" ive linked "technical database" to the technical section of the forum. Theres a couple of others ive anchored, will this affect google or other search engines?
