    Lightbulb gradient colours in background

    Hi,

    Would be nice to be able to go to page properties....background colours and have a choice to gradiate the colours as only solid choice available at present.

    MSN website have just done this to their background colours but I have thought this would be cool on my own for some time now so I will stake my claim to be first here.

    Talking Re: gradient colours in background

    Wait, I just thought of a possible way to achieve this.

    I could create a bv gradient shape and take a screen shot and save as an image and then go to page properties and insert into backround....voila!

    Or, to save a lot of messing, you could just create a gradient filled shape in another application, like Paint Shop Pro or MSPublisher, save it as a .jpg or .gif and insert the image into your BV page. I make all my page templates in *** or Fireworks, I find it makes page loading much smoother.

    Just an idea. I do agree though, the ability to do this with the background function would be a cool addition to the BV package.

    Hi,

    The gradient option is already provided by Blue Voda under Shape Properties
    Fill Effects available are
    Solid_Gradient_Image and Transparent.

    Yes, thats correct but we are talking about the page properties-background colour which does not have this ability that the shape properties have but would be nice to have.

    Hi. You can do this? If you make a shape on a BV page at (lets say) 5 wide x 600 high & colour & make it a gradient to how you like. Then publish it.
    When you are making more pages, is all you do is put the BV image link into the background field. IE: bv02781.gif & it will pick it up at the server end. Not as simple as just putting an image from file in, but when you publish the page with the BV image, maybe put 10 or 20 different images all on this one page, so you can call up different ones when needed at any time.
    The other advantage with this, is you can make the image long & very thin. This will keep the KB’s down as well.

    Excellent idea. This is what I like about this forum.

    I have already entered my gradient and can be viewed at www.affordableweb.biz

    What I did was to make the gradient shape and previewd(not published) and saved the image where I then inserted into the background of the page properties. I had to enlarge my image to 1024 x 850 (as my page height was 840).

    Anyone viewing in screen res 800x600 will only see the white page but anyone viwing in screen resolution 1024x 768 or higher will see this white page centred in the screen with the gradients at the left and right.

    Thanks anyhow.

    Hi, yours sites looking real good.
    The only thing with stretching a BV image is you get the faint horizontal lines across the page. Be nice to see if there is a way around this. Still! Looks good on your site.
    And the lines bit, is maybe me getting to fussy.

    Thanky you for your very nice comment and yes, I noticed the wavy lines too.

    Is there anything that can be done to eliminate this effect?

    Thank again.

    I don’t think there is using BV. But have noticed that it doesn’t show up nearly as bad with lighter colors. (if at all). But I am not sure your site would look right with a lighter green. The only light colour that I like to match with green is 255/255/155 & around this area.

    Good luck.

    Hi bevilleliam,

    On checking out your site to view your gradient solution, I noticed that
    your form does not have any error checks or form hijacking security measures. You have 2 text area boxes which could easily be misused.

    If you are interested in a solution, please contact me

    Hi David,

    Thank you for contacting me and I have done so as you requested.

    I have as of today got a validator script that will validate the form fields but I may need to tweak a little and add to the body of my page html.

    I was going to take my time on it but you have created a spark for me to get this done asap.

    The script goes like..........

    <script language="JavaScript">
    <!--
    /***********************************************
    * Required field(s) validation v1.10- By NavSurf
    * Visit Nav Surf at http://navsurf.com
    * Visit http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for full source code
    ***********************************************/
    function formCheck(formobj){
    // Enter name of mandatory fields
    var fieldRequired = Array("FirstName", "LastName");
    // Enter field description to appear in the dialog box
    var fieldDescription = Array("First Name", "Last Name");
    // dialog message
    var alertMsg = "Please complete the following fields:\n";

    var l_Msg = alertMsg.length;

    for (var i = 0; i < fieldRequired.length; i++){
    var obj = formobj.elements[fieldRequired[i]];
    if (obj){
    switch(obj.type){
    case "select-one":
    if (obj.selectedIndex == -1 || obj.options[obj.selectedIndex].text == ""){
    alertMsg += " - " + fieldDescription[i] + "\n";
    }
    break;
    case "select-multiple":
    if (obj.selectedIndex == -1){
    alertMsg += " - " + fieldDescription[i] + "\n";
    }
    break;
    case "text":
    case "textarea":
    if (obj.value == "" || obj.value == null){
    alertMsg += " - " + fieldDescription[i] + "\n";
    }
    break;
    default:
    }
    if (obj.type == undefined){
    var blnchecked = false;
    for (var j = 0; j < obj.length; j++){
    if (obj[j].checked){
    blnchecked = true;
    }
    }
    if (!blnchecked){
    alertMsg += " - " + fieldDescription[i] + "\n";
    }
    }
    }
    }
    if (alertMsg.length == l_Msg){
    return true;
    }else{
    alert(alertMsg);
    return false;
    }
    }
    // -->
    </script>

    <!--SAMPLE FORM -------------------------------->
    <form name="formcheck" onsubmit="return formCheck(this);">
    First Name: <input type=text name="FirstName" size="25"><br>
    Last Name: <input type=text name="LastName" size="25"><br>
    <input type=submit value="Submit Form">
    </form>

    I would appreciate if you would take a look at the above scrip[t and let me know what tweaking I should do to make this work optimally for me and also if you have other scripts that may protect me from form hijacking then I would appreciate a copy.

    Thanks and regards,

    Bevilleliam:

    The above script will work, but only for thos people that DO NOT turn off
    javascript on their computers.
    A lot of people turn off java to increase security........

    I will contact you later today..........

    Thank you David.

    Would validation be better on the server so as to allow those with Java script turned off to use my forms?

    What if I used a script in conjunction with the server validation?

    Look forward to your reply.

    Bevilleliam:
    Yes, if you have a server side PHP script then both would work in conjunction and for those that turn of java, only the PHP script would take effect.
    I will send you an email within the next ten minutes....................
