Mute button on homepage turns off volume on entire system

Is there someone who can help me.

On my Homepage I have a mute volume button, but I've heard from some that when they put the music volume on mute pr lower the volume then their entire volume system goes mute. How do I stop this from happening and/or is there another way I can have music on my Home page and yet still have the option to mute the volume.
