I got ABVFP installed. I got to this point:

Click on the button “ABVFP Control Panel”. If the next screen comes up, as it should, please take a minute and change back your “ABVFP” permissions to be “755”. Then, enter the folder itself, and change permissions to the files “dbts_install.php” and “dbts_ABVFP_install1.php” to be 000

What do you mean by "change back your 'ABVFP' permissions to be '755'."? Is that just the folder ABVFP? or all the dbts_ABVFP files in the ABVFP folder?

Also when you say "change dbts_install.php to be 000" . Are you just repeating that to stress it? or is this another folder by the same name that I did the step before?

The entire ABVFP folder permissions must be set back to 755.
Usually, the folder permissions are set to 755 by default. However, in some cases, depending on the particular server php settings, permissions set at 755 will NOT allow you to correctly install the software. In fact, the problem is that some servers, will not allow the automated creation of the file dbts_ABVFP_config.php which is essential for the functionin of the software. It is for this reason, that the entire folder is set to 777, and then, after installation, it is set back to 755. The files inside the ABVFP folder are 644, and such should remain.

No, that's a security measure. The files "dbts_install.php" and dbts_install1.php" are the files that install ABVFP on your site. They are INSIDE the ABVFP folder. If some malicious person finds out that you have ABVFP installed on your site, he can, through his browser, run again the file, and mess up your ABVFP. This is in fact very hard, as he would need also your database username and password, which is highly improbable. However, as a precaution, i advise turning these two files permissions in 000, so they become non accessible.

last questions, Naval:

One last but most important step: You need to add a hidden field in your form. This hidden field must be named “Formid” and its value must be the form number that ABVFP has indicated to you when you set up the form

will an edit box suffice for the "hidden field"? and its called "hidden" cuz i can just send it to the back right? or is there something else hidden about this field?

and I have to name it Formid_x where the x is the number given it during the ABVFP set up of the form correct?

When I name it that, i dont have to add a validation extension correct?

when you say the "value" must be the number, do you mean just the _x extension in the name? or are you talking about the "initial value" of the edit box properties?

Lastly,
The errorpages don't have to have the text area placed on a form correct?

Sorry for all the questions. I just like to be thorough and do things right the first time. Im probably looking way too much into things and should just follow my instincts.

a hidden field is a hidden field. You don't need to create a text field and name it "hidden" Double click the form, so that the Form Properties dialog box comes up. In the form properties dialog box, there is, in the lower part, a small window, titled "Hidden Fields. That window is for the hidden fields. Click on "Add" , and you will be able to add the hidden field name and value. Since this is the first form you are processing ABVFP with, it's value need to be set to 2. The number 1 is for the example form settings, which is by fefault memorized in ABVFP's database.
You will see the form ID number when you will setup the form in ABVFP. Just make sure it is the same.

The error page needs a text area, but NOT a form.

I thought of one more, I hope you're not thinking this stupid moron shoulda just paid the money... I like to learn and I'll try till im blue in the face or 4 am whichever is first.

question:

If i published form, thank you and error pages. Then made my first attempt to test the form, but didn't have the hidden field done properly, will ABVFP treat that like someone who didn't check all their fields, bullets, and boxes?
will I have to delete the table throught mySQL and redo the table?

No, ABVFP will deny to process the form.

The normal procedure is like this: first, you setup your form so that it works correctly, WITHOUT database storing. Once you have made sure that your form works ok, you enter again ABVFP Control Panel, and you modify the settings of this form, (you can do so very easily, ABVFP has an option for modifying the settings of a form that you have already setup) by ticking the database relevant radio buttons.

i think i got it. i was naming the hidden field Formid_2 which didnt process.

Aconstas: seems that you have solved your issues. One more thing: you have set your fields background to be transparent: set them back to the same color as the background. Setting it to transparent results in fileds not being clickable to type your values.

I just wanted to let you know that I used your ABVFP for my website re-design and the installation and set-up process was amazingly simple and smooth with your detailed instructions and online set up! :)

If you mean the visitor's email address, it is automatically pursed as "from" email , so yes, you just hit the "reply" button and you can email him back.

Hi all. I need some help with the form processer. It wont install. I have followed all instructions, started again, reloaded the ABVFP into public file, and get as far as filling in the Form Processer form. But then it wont load the next form.. telling me I made a mistake with the user details. I cant find what I am doing wrong and have been trying for days now. So Im just a "tiny" bit frustrated
Please advise

Please note that clicking on the question marks, a online help window will open. This will provide you with help on what to fill in in each field.

when I have the field for the phone number, the error page shows up saying The field Phone should be only numbers / No spaces allowed Hoe do I correct this.

The field extension is set to be -N which means that it should be a number, and as such no spaces or () are allowed. If you want spaces and () make the field extension -A or -RA (for required)

Please note that with BV9 you can now set validation of he fields also in the form itself. I advise to use both the BV Javascript validation as well as the ABVFP validation. The first one is immediate (the fields are validated BEFORE submission) but can be overriden by spammers. The second one will validate the fields AFTER submission, in the script it self, so it can NOT be overriden by spammers.
