I have done this for a client of mine, but using a Word file instead of a PDF one. I believe that to make it work with a PDF file you need some PDF conversion extensions for php that are sold at a "salted" price.

If you are interested in a Word solution, contact me through my contact form.

In any case, you need a specific script, ABVFP can only process the form info, it can not create a document as you want it.

What does salted mean?

The pdf files are already created and ready to go through my distribution channels. I'm familiar with the process of mapping field within Adobe so people can input information in each section, but that doesn't help me simplify things for my customers by mapping everything for them automatically so they do not have to fill out each form. This is more of a "value added" service I would like to offer my customers.

One of my business associates said I could probably hire somebody to write the code, but I'd like to find out how hard it is to accomplish before outsourcing.

Means "Expensive".

The problem is that you are not in an Adobe environment in a website. Whatever script you use, has to
1. Open your PDF template
2. Replace the specific words / phrases with those that the client has typed in a form
3. Create a new PDF file with the specific data
4. Allow download of the new file

There are also other side issues related (deletion of the created file after the download, security issues etc).

Based on your expertise what represents expensive? $1000? $5000?

I think these PDF conversion libraries cost between $600 - 800. A script that could use a fixed (or more than one) template to create a PDF file from user input and allow download, would cost $300 - 400 (custom built) for a couple of forms (couple of documents). If more are required, there should axpect an additional $30 - 40 per form (template)

The Word solution (who doesn't have Word nowdays ?) would reduce the cost to the only script.

Is there a way to keep the format intact when converting a pdf to a word document? I tried to cut and paste one of the pdf files to a word document and the results were lacking.

If this information is already located in this thread, please accept my apologies. This thread has grown quite large and I really did try to search for my answer before posting. I have downloaded and installed ABVFP and I am very happy with one exception. I cannot get any emails to send. I believe I know the problem, but I have not found a workaround. I do not believe my provider allows me to use the mail() function on my server. This is based on the fact that my pHpBB works fine if I select SMTP, but does not work if do not select SMTP. I do not have to provide a username and password, I simply have to use SMTP. Is there a way to make this same change in ABVFP?

I'm afraid not with this version, the next one (in approx a month) will support SMTP authentication using the Zend mail engine.

Sorry.

Thank you very much for the fast reply. I must say, your level of commitment and support is astounding, just as everyone on here has stated. I will try to find a work around until the next version, or perhaps get brave enough to try and develop a work around on my own. I am no where near your skill level, but I have successfully modified a number of PhP apps to meet my needs. Thank you again, and I look forward to another great version.

It should not be difficult, in fact it would only require 3 - 4 hrs work. The problem with such major u***tes is that i have to also change the user interface, the database installation wizard, and test the script extensively before making it public, so it will require some time.

I understand how valuable time is. I was considering installing some PEAR includes and attempting to make the code changes to utilize the SMTP functionality. Do you know if anyone has attempted this and perhaps posted any help?

Do not loose time with PEAR, use either the Zend Mailer or the php mailer class, they are easy to implement and will do more (much more!) than what a PEAR script will. I have used PHP mailer in one of its previous versions, and itwas quite easy to do, but now i want to use the Zend engine because of its antispam built in measures.

Thanks for the advice. I will check into those two options. Much appreciate you helping me avoid wasting my time. I will post back and let you know how it goes. You may have the next version out before I figure out how to get this working.

I have a ABVFP for a request page. When a potential customer fills out a form, I get an email to the wrong address telling me that there has been a submission. It doesnt tell me the info I need though. My website is skiesthelimit2008.com. The "get what you want" link is were people place there requests. Can someone take a look at it and tell me why I'm not getting the requests?

Hello Naval,
My goal is to create forms and build an opt-in list.
I have downloaded ABVFP, installed and uploaded into FTP file.
I have attempted to write confirm email for the contact page.
I have four pages: index, http://www.awarenessofoneness.com/
contactflf, http://www.awarenessofoneness.com/contactflf.html
confirm, http://www.awarenessofoneness.com/confirm.html
thank_you http://www.awarenessofoneness.com/thank_you.php

I do not understand the instruction, "the table in ABVFP should read, "_Form_nr_x" where x=Form ID number. Where is this?
What more is needed to set up the data base and con***t the pages?
I would like to learn how to use this system so that I can do my own changes and create new forms. There seem to be a few places I do not have a clear understanding of the instructions, but I am sure that is just my lack of familiarity with this material.

I also have another question about another website I have that I would like to also be able to work on my self. Currently this is site is with a host, Green Olive Tree, which also has CPanel, but has no tutorials that I can easily get into. Will the cost of moving it be such that I might just better recreate it here on BV? The UPL is http://www.abridgebeyondcoaching.com. This is the name of my business of coaching and I would like to maintain a web site as an identity. Also I would like to have free stuff and some items to sell on this site. I have audios that are visualization exercises and also relaxation audios. I want to also create some videos of my work in hypnosis, visualization and teaching my ideas about using visualization to create your life with intention and more effectively. Thank you for any feedback you can offer. Alice
