Smile How to tune up your computer

Just like your car, your home / office computer also requires periodic tune ups.

1) Click Here to download a free piece of software call ccleaner. (install it, run it and reboot)

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)

2) After you run cleaner and your system is clean, I highly suggest you run the Registry Issues Cleaner,
CCleaner uses an advanced Registry to check for problems and inconsistencies in your registry. It can check
the following:
  • File Extensions
  • ActiveX Controls
  • ClassIDs
  • ProgIDs
  • Uninstallers
  • Shared DLLs
  • Fonts
  • Help File references
  • Application Paths
  • Icons
  • Invalid Shortcuts and more...
3) Time to Defrag your hard drive....Please follow the below...

Start >>> Programs >>> Accessories >> System Tools >>> Disk Defragmenter

4)
After you are done with the above 3, reboot again and you will notice a considerable improvement in your computers speed and performance. For best results repeat the above at least once a month.

PS...Make sure all programs and software are shut down during the above cleaning and defraging process, nothing must be running!

Is this better than Spybot and Ad-Aware? Also if I download this, should I get rid of them programs?

It looks really good.

It is not better or worse, it is completely different software that accomplishes an entirely different task.

I'll give this a go as my sons laptop is running very slowly despite all the latest Antivirus kit plus lavasoft / adaware etc (all the usual clean ups done with no improvement) I'll post back our result.

Im with Robert. Ive had it for quite a few years. I love it! I only have one issue with it, but that issue is my own laziness...lol
after I use it I have to go back and set my log ins...like here Im just able to click in without signing in, and I like that lazy option...but if thats all that I have to deal with, I think I can deal....lol
USE IT! , Its amazing!......

Kate, you could always clear the cookies tickbox and it will not clear your cookies.

Thank You General:

I have been using this program going on 18 months. I normally run the ccleaner every week, as well as defrag on a weekly basis. Defrag is an auto must on a weekly basis which I suggest everyone should do. This can be set to auto run when one is sleeping. Saves time as well as helps keep system running faster. Registry issues are always top priority, since the more you use a computer the more the registry gets cluttered with file deletions that do not always remove all of a given program.

I love cleaner since many of the issues I run into are out dated file extensions, or cookies which should have been removed are not. A great program and well worth its investment in use.

Thumbs up Re: How to tune up your computer

Sounds like a good program. I fix computers and most of my customers have this problem. I'm so use to fixing computers and messing with registries. This program will save lots of people some trips to the computer doctor. Good program

Kate, I think you SHOULD clear cookies regularly - however, you could use the method ***** posted above to keep from losing your passwords.

I clear cookies almost daily with the amount of browsing I do -

I have downloaded this and I am very impressed (Well Done Voda, another great piece of help and advice).
I have one other issue that I need help with and that is my computer takes an absolute age to boot up (I have to leave it for about 15 mins) then everything works fine, how do I go about deleting/freezing programs that seem to be clogging up my system on start up.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Stuart

Thanks Beth. Now I do use the 'disc clean' daily to clear up any temp files. But that doesnt take care of the cookies. (I believe?) I use CC about twice a month..depends on what Im up to. Of course If Im spending all my online time just doing my sites then I dont feel the need. But if Im doing searches quite often I will use it.

Just wanted to catch you CL in case you were going to download this, I did yesterday and realized I had this already ... there are a few differences, but none that I needed so ... I stopped.

However, I had to pay for mine .... very useful tool indeed!!
